Jumblat: March 8, 14 Camps Seeking Electoral Law that Caters to Their Own Interests

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat refused to be affiliated to any of the rival March 8 and 14 camps, saying that he and Prime Minister Najib Miqati “lie in the same boat,” reported the daily An Nahar Sunday.

He told the daily: “The rival camps are seeking to adopt a parliamentary electoral law that caters to their own interests.”

“They act as if the country only belongs to them. Neither side is willing to make concessions or consider the possibility that a third party or minority exists in Lebanon and seeks different goals than them,” he said.

“Each camp believes that whichever side is victorious in the parliamentary elections will be able to take over the country and eliminate the other,” added Jumblat.

Asked about the solution to the current political deadlock, the MP replied: “I don't know. The two camps should realize that I am not affiliated to either of them.”

“A third and centrist opinion exists in Lebanon and this third choice must be represented in the parliamentary elections,” he stressed.

On the March 14-led opposition's demand for the resignation of the government, he commented: “Miqati and I are in the same boat. We either sink or swim together.”

Look who's talking... Mr Jump-a-lot....
Isn't he doing the same thing when pushing for the worst electoral law: 1960 one??

Shame on your Mr Jump-a-lot
Who are you to critisize either camp, when your way of doing politics since day 1 was to cater your FAMILY interest...
You should shut up!

And what about you...? You were the first to Seek an Electoral Law that Caters to your Own Interests... What a hypocrite... Don't try to insult our intelligence and pretend that you have Lebanon's best interests at heart... Because you never did... just another tribal or feudal chief... like the rest of them...

Jumblat ~ “The rival camps are seeking to adopt a parliamentary electoral law that caters to their own interests.”

As is Walid Jumblat seeking electoral law that caters to his interests. That is the nature of politics, a game that Walid is very, very good at.

i understand u walid beik...but it seems that the presence of the akallyet is harder and harder in this poor middle east just to accomodate the jewish minority...
we can resume all this meli melo in this region to the fact that israel has a real enemy in the state of lebanon.... the state of akalliyet ,we have small minority or a bigger minority but everybody is and always be a minority.. and lebanon will prevail, just becose that is the natural course of life and humanity.

I don't see why m14 should compromise or even have talks with an armed coalition (m8) who keeps assassinating opposition members.jumblat always easily forgets that march 8 works for a regime that killed his father. he said himself when he put the revolutionary flag on his father's grave.

“Each camp believes that whichever side is victorious in the parliamentary elections will be able to take over the country and eliminate the other,” added Jumblat...........
In a healthy Democracy void of armed parties and groups, with healthy and non-corrupt institutions and where the constitution is supreme the winning majority does Govern (not take over or eliminate) and this is what I wish for Lebanon. We do not need political cover for the army to do its duty. We do not need declarations to maintain peace.
