Plumbly Met Berri and Saniora Separately: Talks Touched on the Conflict in Syria
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةU.N. Special Coordinator for Lebanon Derek Plumbly met with former Prime Minister Fouad Saniora early Thursday and later on met with Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri where talks focused on the ongoing conflict in Syria.
“I just had a very good meeting with Speaker Berri, as I did earlier this morning with former Prime Minister Fouad Saniora,” Plumbly said in a statement.
The U.N. Special Coordinator added “Both of these meetings addressed a range of issues including the ongoing conflict in Syria and its impact on Lebanon, in particular with regard to refugees.”
He concluded “We also discussed preparations for this year’s parliamentary elections. In that context I warmly welcomed the discussions that are now taking place between the representatives of the different political parties, at the Speaker’s initiative, on the electoral law and underscored the importance of the elections taking place on time in line with Lebanon’s constitutional requirements.”
