Syrian Prime Minister Wael al-Halaqi arrived in Tehran on Tuesday for consultations with his beleaguered regime's key regional ally, state television reported.

Leading a high ranking delegation, Halaqi was welcomed by his counterpart Mohammad Reza Rahimi.

According to the Fars news agency, he is expected to meet Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, as well as parliament speaker Ali Larijani.

Fars said the two sides will discuss "expansion of bilateral relations and Syrian President Bashar Assad's three-step plan" for the political future, presented on January 6.

Assad's plan was rejected by the opposition and Western governments as being detached from reality. The plan offered dialogue but only with opposition groups he deemed acceptable, not "terrorists" led by foreigners.

Iran has supplied financial aid to Syria and has admitted to sending military advisers to assist in the regime's nearly 22-month crackdown.

According to U.N. figures, more than 60,000 people have been killed in the violence in Syria since March 2011.

Halaqi's visit to Iran comes a week after Syrian rebels freed 48 Iranians held hostage for more than five months in exchange for more than 2,000 regime detainees.

I understand that now the World is waiting for the UN which will be planned to be held at the end of this month. While the opposition rejected the Assad7s proposal, for me, the assad7s proposal is actually open to the all parties including even the people on the armed ones, by resemblance wording of him - the presons on the armed struggle, I wonder the reason why the Opposition always rejected the peaceful approach. I also amazed, actually wrote about the achievement of the country of Iran in which the Iran acieved the reconciliation with Muslim Brotherhood, with the President Morsi for the peaceful path for Syria, including the agreement of support by the Secretary General of the Muslim Brotherhood. Their movement indeed massuve influenced the battle in Syria. I would like to express my sentiment as last week that the Assad7s peaceful proposal would be continued as rightway their cabinet has commenced the implementation plan, before the UN Security Council/
