The Lebanese army intelligence detained a cadet officer in the military academy suspected of having links with a “terrorist” organization, al-Akhbar newspaper reported on Wednesday.

According to the daily, the network is located in the Ain al-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp in the southern port city of Sidon.

Judicial sources told the newspaper that the cadet was expected to graduate in August 2013 but the intelligence bureau received information that he was recruited by a close member to the “Emir” of the “terrorist” group.

The sources described the matter as “precautionary,” pointing out that the ties between the officer and the organization were “still at the first stages and he wasn't assigned to do any operation yet.”

In March last year, the army intelligence exposed an extremist network that was planning to carry out terrorist attacks on the military school in al-Fayyadiyeh and the army barracks in Hamat.

Media reports then described the cell as takfiri with links to the Abdullah Azzam Brigades.

'terrorist' is a readily available accusation used by mukhabarat jaish i.e she3as against any potential suni threat. What is the 'act' that this officer did?? did he shoot at anyone? what is the crime here? are we arresting people for the way they think? what about the terrorists who did committ the murder of hariri, who did kill wesam 7assan who did conspire and acted upon killing butrus 7arb etc.

anyone intending to hurt our army should be tried for treason and punished by death. End of story! we should all support the arnmy against any and all threats. Period.

Y the hell are these camps still here?!?!... Who is protecting them still? I say we need a nahr barid v2.0 just to remind them that they are "guests" here...

Are you guys really condoning what happened in Sabra & Shatila? Seriously? Haven't we learned anything after all these years? We may not especially love the idea of the Palestinian camps in Lebanon, but is saying "yeah, lets have another Sabra & Shatila, or nahr barid" is kind of sick...

I agree with u on the sabra n shatila thing... But in nahr barid that army put its foot down against these groups. It needs to be done again if they don't stop messing with our security.
