Jumblat Shies Away from Revealing Alliances in Upcoming Polls
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةProgressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblat on Wednesday avoided revealing his alliances in the upcoming parliamentary elections, saying the polls were just a “transitional stage.”
In remarks to As Safir daily, Jumblat described his meeting with al-Mustaqbal movement chief and ex-PM Saad Hariri in Paris on Tuesday as “friendly, honest and important.”
“We agreed on some ideas but there are other issues that require more discussions,” he said.
Jumblat said that he had a unified stance with Hariri on the rejection of the adoption of the so-called Orthodox Gathering proposal for harming Lebanon's National Pact.
The proposal, which has been backed by the four major Christian parties, calls for a single district and allows each sect to vote for its own MPs under a proportional representation system.
Asked whether his National Struggle Front will seek an alliance with al-Mustaqbal bloc in the elections, Jumblat said the issue would be discussed when the time is ripe.
“The most important thing today is internal dialogue. The elections are just a passing phase,” he stressed.
Hariri's press office said on Tuesday that the two leaders “discussed the regional situation in all its aspects and the challenges Lebanon is facing.”
Jumblat and Hariri “stressed the need to preserve the Taef constitution and religious coexistence in Lebanon which provide protection for national unity and stability in the face of these challenges.”
We need a Lebanon without Jumblatt & Mustahbal Salafist Wahabi politicians. The time is now ripe for new elections without these criminals gaining the upper hand in Lebanese politics. They will no longer be able to mess with or buy their Christian politicians. Al Hamdilulah.
It is amazing how some people have colored glasses. To describe the Mustaqbal to be wahhabist is dishonest. As for the criminal accusation, how many have been convicted in court of crimes or to that matter charged with crimes? On the other hand four senior members of the hizb are charged with the killing of former PM hariri.
for the counting of lebanon's population NOW, 33 pct of lebanese dont get 50 pct of MP'S
we have to chose between confessional system or a civic state, and yesssssssssssss for civil marriage
@Majdak, we need a Lebanon without the mercenary terrorist Farsi HA and incompetent coward thief ex-general.

Ta7ya suriya l assad. they are leading the race, leading the arab boards .. by killing their people.. love the way you think man..
This describes one of Lebanon's main problems perfectly. Jumblat said "The elections are just a passing phase." What he means is that the people's vote is irrelevent. The election is a charade in this country. The country is run by leaders of religious identities who could care less what the "majority" of Lebanese want.
