Hizbullah Condemns Israeli Attack on Syria, Considers it Attempt to 'Destroy' Damascus

Hizbullah condemned on Thursday a reported Israeli attack on a Syrian military research center, saying it reveals the Jewish state's attempts to destroy Damascus.

The attack “fully unmasked what has been happening in Syria over the past two years and the criminal objectives of destroying this country and weakening its army, which discloses a bigger conspiracy against the Arab and Muslim countries,” a statement issued by Hizbullah said.

The statement described the attack as “monstrous,” urging the international and Arab communities to condemn the attack.

“But we have been used to the failure (of these communities) to condemn or take any serious stance of any value when Israel is involved,” it added.

Hizbullah expressed its solidarity with Syria's leadership, army and people in the statement, stressing on the danger of the campaign against Syria.

The attack unveiled Israel's policy of preventing "Arab and Muslim forces from boosting their military and technological capacities," it said.

It called for a political dialogue to end the ongoing crisis in Damascus to preserve the country and maintain its role in confronting “the enemies.”

On Wednesday, the Syrian army confirmed reports on an Israeli air strike that hit a military research center near Damascus at dawn, denying reports that the raid targeted a weapons convoy near the Lebanese border.

"Israeli fighter jets violated our airspace at dawn today and carried out a direct strike on a scientific research center in charge of raising our level of resistance and self-defense," Syria's army said.

The raid came "after terrorist groups made several failed attempts in the past months to take control of the site," its general command said, referring to rebels fighting to oust President Bashar Assad's regime.

The attack took place after Israel continuously expressed concerns that Damascus' stockpile of chemical weapons could fall into the hands of Hizbullah.

As well as concerns about Syria's chemical weapons stockpile, Israel has accused Syria of supplying long-range Scud missiles to Hizbullah.

This is not the israeli fan club but PATRIOTIC lebanese who only want to see arms only with the state instead of an armed group financed and armed by a foreign nation. The strike occurred in Syria anyway and I don't see why you would be up in arms about unless it somehow affected your 'resistance'.

I for one, would like to see a 10 meter wall demarcing the border with us and Syria so we can prevent these unauthorized and illegal convoys from smuggling arms across the border, BOTH ways.

Thumb geha 31 January 2013, 13:16

nobody is cheering Israel, rather we are happy the terrorist group did not receive his chemical weapons. and before you start shouting: it is all over the news.

Thumb bigsami 31 January 2013, 17:56

Great...bring it on Iran. That's what we and the world needs...a spark so that the West can obliterate you, Assad and HA once and for all! Rid us from the scums of the planet. A disease to say the least!

Missing peace 31 January 2013, 21:25

and here go the syrian fan club. if mowaten claim to be lebanese he should be ashamed of cheering syria, he is like sheep, cheering and rejoicing when they hit your neighbor and forgetting the days when it was you they were hitting on.
instead of standing united against the common enemy you let yourselves be divided and weak, and lower your head when the blows come, hoping they will have mercy on your sorry behinds..
pathetic."

funny how mowaten says things that can be easily applied to his defending of the baathist regime, criticizing others of what he himself does....

The Shia rulers have lost all sense of reason and logic and can only see things from a narrow sectarian perspective that further reinforces the accusation of them being nothing but a self serving cult.

This is another proof of the blatant Zionist-American-Saudi-Qatari-Wahhabi aggression on Syria to weaken it's military and remove any threat towards the bogus State of Israel.

"The statement described the attack as “monstrous,” urging the international and Arab communities to condemn the attack"
What about the last 6 months of air strikes the syrian army has been executing against its own people, including women and children? THAT'S NOT MONSTOROUS?????????

Missing samiam 31 January 2013, 17:33

Anyone notice that no world leaders are condemning the air strikes except a few here, Syria, Iran and Russia? That in itself, is pretty damning to Syria. Not even a word out of Iraq, who by letting Iran and Russia use its airspace to deliver arms to Syria, is by definition extremely friendly.

Well, look at that! Iran's feelings are hurt because of one strike inside Syria. Here comes the iranians rushing to defend Syria's honor. Hm, well, how does Nassrallah feel about this, as Israel bombed the hell of of Hizbollah, over and over again, and no Iran or Syria lifted a finger or threatened "retaliation". I guess lebanon, is not so "important" or special enough to either assad or iran. So it's all clear now, Hizbollah is nothing but an iranian mafia, doing what iran wants, which is annoy israel as much as possible, in return for money and weapons. I say to israel, go ahead, bomb syria over and over again, until the rebels win, and out of appreciation, the new syria will make peace with israel, as thank you for your assistance.

Default-user-icon david wehbe (Guest) 31 January 2013, 19:34

I say all hizbollah members, should go to syria, and stay there, forever. Iran is fine too.

Missing peace 31 January 2013, 20:04

let s see if syria is "resistant" as hezbi and M8ers claim! now that they have trianed on their citizens by shelling them using tanks helicopters heavy weapons, let s see if they ll use it against israel!! i doubt it...

they prefer the dirty job to be done by hezbis in lebanon rather than from syria...
anyway iranman said that if israel strikes syria they would respond by sending their missiles... so far only barking, seem they are afraid....

Thumb andre.jabbour 31 January 2013, 20:19

Syria shoots down Turkish airplanes.... but won't even target (without firing) any Israeli airplane... yes, that;s what happens when you rely on your Israeli ally for defence. Basically, what happened Yesterday was just a little stab in the back.
