Britain Blasts 'Delusional' Assad

British Foreign Secretary William Hague said Sunday that Syrian President Bashar Assad was "delusional" for failing to see that the bloodshed in his country was at his own hands.

Hague said that he would this week announce more assistance to the Syrian opposition in the form of non-lethal equipment and refused to rule out the possibility of arming them in the future.

In an interview with British newspaper The Sunday Times, Assad accused London of wanting to arm terrorists in his country.

Britain has been pushing to lift a ban on the sale of arms to Syria's rebels, but at a meeting last month European Union foreign ministers ruled that only "non-lethal" aid and "technical assistance" could be given to the opposition.

"How can we expect them to make the violence less while they want to send military supplies to the terrorists and don't try to ease the dialogue between the Syrians?" Assad said in a rare interview with Western media.

The United Nations estimates 70,000 people have been killed in the 23-month conflict.

Hague told BBC television: "This is a man presiding over this slaughter.

"And the message to him is we, Britain, are the people sending food and shelter and blankets to help people driven from their homes and families in his name.

"We are the people sending medical supplies to try to look after people injured and abused by the soldiers working for this man.

"Assad thinks and is told by his inner circle that all of this is an international conspiracy, not the actual rebellion and revolt of his own people.

"This will go down as one of the most delusional interviews that any national leader has given in modern times."

In the interview, Assad dismissed the suggestion that Britain could play a constructive role in resolving the conflict, saying: "We don't expect an arsonist to be a firefighter."

He added that London had long been out of contact with Damascus and lacked credibility in Syria due to its dealings in the Middle East.

Britain ...

Remind us again why we should care about this second rate bankrupt country. Without their London banksters looting billions from the poor around the world they would a fourth world nation ...

I think it is between dictatorship and backwardness. The legitimate, patriotic and moderates have been sidelined and are being victimized by both sides.

Josh - honestly, you do not know what you are talking about. I hope there are smartest Baathist than you. If you are the best they can marshal, then the party is in trouble. Considering that the syrian regime imprisoned, exiled and killed the cream of the party, I am not surprised.

If not for our ego, we can be the best civilization in the world. If people like Bashar, accept responsibility, listen to their people, admit their mistakes, and stop pointing fingers at other people, the Middle East will halt being a big Zoo.

Britain is delusional. They obviously can't see who is fighting who. They are delusion to the point that the beards on the Qaeda fighters have one goal and that is to establish an Islamic Country in Syria. Is this what the dopey old queen and it's pommy government wants to see? They have shown no respect and compelte disregard towards the Christians of the Middle East let alone those of the British Isles and Ireland. They will be thrown into the lake of fire and the first of these will tbe the her royal highness the queen of the evil zionist supporting british empire. May Christ have mercy upon your evil and naïve souls.

Josh,
from our point of view:
- Its is between free-head women and garbage bags: well that sums up what hizbushaitan is, and they are the allies of the Syrian regime.
- It is between culture of minorities and culture of killers: well, again this is the difference between m14 and m8 represented mainly by hizbushaitan , the ally f the Syrian regime.
furthermore, we have nt seen destruction and killing of Lebanese as we have seen at the hands of the Syrian regime.
so spare us your BS.

Note Hague's smile when he said it. Britain knows very well who is fighting Assad, they get reports of their dead citizens periodically.

When will ASSad fall? Back in 2005 when you first informed us or every other week since then? Let us know because we count on you more than you count on you.

I guess he has never heard any of Aouns weekly speeches.

Missing samiam 04 March 2013, 13:16

Well, Aoun isn't a national leader. He wants to be, but his only office is a party leader.

josh, at the time of father assad, may me what you are saying was initially true. Howevern this regime turned bloody and imperialistic in Lebanon so it can continues to survive. At the time of Assad son, the regime turned into a confrontational axis with Iran, HA and Hamas again so that both the iranina and syrian regime can survive. Basic rule: tyranic regimes cannot survive in a peaceful environment. Do you think that Iran or Syria care about Israel or the Lebanese people. All they do care is about the survival of the regime.

wow dude, just wow--I see reality has left you long ago and now you are left with nothing but delusion.

the baath system is based on stalin's system with a large internal security presence, a large land based army and a highly centralized government, with limited freedom and a large system of gulags/prisons. The only difference is that the syrian baath party included more of the alawite clan.
