Syrian Planes Bomb Khirbet Younin, Wadi al-Khayl in Arsal Outskirts

Syrian warplanes bombed the border area with Lebanon for the first time on Monday, a high-ranking Lebanese army official told Agence France Presse, reportedly targeting Syrian rebel positions inside Lebanon.

"Syrian planes bombed the border between Lebanon and Syria but I cannot yet say if they hit Lebanese territory or only Syrian territory," the military official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

But a Lebanese security services official on the ground confirmed that the warplanes had fired four missiles against Syrian rebel positions on the Lebanese side of the border.

He said the attacks targeted the town of Arsal, in east Lebanon, close to the Syrian border, where many residents back the uprising against Syrian President Bashar Assad.

The National News Agency had reported: “Syrian warplanes bombed the outskirts of the towns of Khirbet Younin and Wadi al-Khayl in Arsal's barren mountains.

Meanwhile, according to al-Manar television, the warplanes planes had targeted two barns used by rebel forces in the Wadi al-Khayl area of Arsal.

Al-Mayadeen television said the neighboring country's army targeted the positions of gunmen in the towns of al-Dabaa and Jousiyyeh near the Lebanese border.

Local resident Suheil Fliti told AFP that the missiles had fallen in an agricultural area and there were no injuries in the incident.

Lebanon has publicly committed itself to staying neutral in the violence engulfing Syria, but the conflict has already exacerbated tensions in the country.

Syrian troops have on several occasions fired shells over the border, while the Damascus regime accused Lebanon of allowing Sunni fighters to cross illegally into Syria to join the rebels.

On Sunday, shells fired during clashes inside Syria struck the outskirts of the Akkar towns of al-Noura, al-Qashlaq, Wadi al-Hour, Janine and Amar al-Baikat, the NNA reported.

LBCI television elaborated saying that the shelling also targeted the outskirts of the town of al-Arma.

On Thursday, Syria threatened that its forces would fire into Lebanon if "terrorist gangs" continued to infiltrate the country.

In a letter of protest to Lebanon, the neighboring country's foreign ministry said: “Armed terrorist gangs have infiltrated Syrian territory in large numbers from Lebanon".

"Syrian forces have confronted these gangs and clashes are continuing," the letter said.

Syrian Ambassador Ali Abdul Karim Ali told As Safir newspaper that Syria doesn't have an interest in having tense relations with Lebanon.

“Yet we can't compromise the security and stability of Syria,” he said. “We are under attack and we won't accept that.”

March 14 opposition sources told al-Joumhouria that “Damascus would not waste any chance in transferring its battles to Lebanon.”

where is the army which is supposed to defend our borders? aerial raids on Lebanese villages and ... no army!
let them all go home: why should we pay their salaries if they do not want to defend the Lebanese territory?

Thumb geha 18 March 2013, 17:11

mowaten pfff to your comment actually. it does not add anything:
the army has been requested to deploy for over 2 years now along the Lebanese border, and since they did not do it, it is logical that armed groups would cross our border. but that does not justify daily bombardments of innocent Lebanese homes.
if the army does not have enough resources to do it, then it can use the 1701.
but we all know the reason why they do not do that: hizbushaitan wants open borders with Syria.
this policy is killing Lebanon, not the other way round.

Thumb geha 18 March 2013, 17:21

what innocent Lebanese homes? you do not read the news every day? you do not hear that every day the Syrian regime is bombarding innocent Lebanese?
you are seriously blind and demented to ignore the facts.

mowaten, again you question the source, but when al-akhbar or SANA says something, you treat it as gospel--if you don't trust or like the source, move on and shut up because your defense of the alleged actions are absurd. I am thinking you are more of a paid shill than an actual thinking human being.

What a shame !!!!! Our army is just looking around while we are being attacked by Syria . Fighters are crossing into Syria to take part in the civil war wheater they are fighting for the regime or the FSA. Instead of working together politicians insult each other and threat each other and bet on the outcome of the syrian civil war. Why can't they all think about Lebanon for once and stop beeing childish. We can't afford another civil war this would ruin our country for ever. I blame both M14 and M8 for the current situation they behave like idiots .

Thumb geha 18 March 2013, 17:00

blaming both the victim and the aggressor is not right.
m14 figures are the ones being assassinated, m14 is the one constantly being aggressed at the force of weapons,... what do you expect them to do more? accept all what hizbushaitan and fpm want? no way! this is not how you build a country, or at least not a country you would like to live in.

Thumb geha 18 March 2013, 17:19

maybe you are right, but who is hizbushaitan to execute them?
let them execute their own who are being daily convicted of a lot more serious crimes.

Thumb geha 18 March 2013, 17:16

our army should be defending us not anybody else, and that we seem to agree on.
but you forgot that hizbushaitan wants open borders with Syria to help this falling Syrian regime by attacking the Syrian people inside Syria, and when the FSA retaliates you cry fowl!
in arsal, there was 5 hizbushaitan members killed, and they are the ones who kidnapped and killed one Lebanese. the army guys were called in by hizbushaitan to help them, but they became targets as well. they were dragged in by hizbushaitan.
rest assured we all know what happened, and what is happening. so spare us your instigation BS.

OK so they tried to ignite the strife with Samaha they failed, they tried to ignite the strife with Aoun's lunatic rhetoric they failed, they tried to ignite the strife by murdering Wissan Hassan and the failed attempts on Harb and Geagea they failed, they tried to ignite the strife with Ali Eid they failed, they tried to ignite the strife with the Arsal incident they failed, they tried to push Nasrallah to ignite the strife but he didn't get the Iranian green light and they failed, now they are so desperate to ignite the strife they are using their own jets, with a nasty habit of falling out of the sky at the smell of an Israeli jet, to do so but they will again fail.

Neither the Regime nor FSA, nor HA, nor Israel respect our borders, this isn't a huge surprise.

Perfectly said Elemental, when we do not respect ourselves no one will respect us. What is stopping us from seeking UN help and protection to demarcate and close the borders except for legal crossings. Neither the Syrian regime nor the FSA can afford to say no to that at this stage.

Syria did thousands times more harm to lebanon, in terms of bombing, killing of leaders and journalist, occupation, etc... and still you shout out loud that Syria is a friendly country. You should be the one tried for treason.

kafi and geha sorry i see your point but disagree with what you are saying.

mowaten, we are officially at war with israel and officially at peace with syria.my question to you is what does israel do that syria doesnt?

does syria let lebanon have its fair share from the northern rivers?
does it not cross the border when it pleases?
does it not have lebanese political prisoners?
did it not kill lebanese during the war and after (during the occupation)?
did it not steal and loot lebanon over the 15 years there was the occupation?

how come it is ok with you to be occupied by a country and not another?

Missing samiam 18 March 2013, 21:44

I bet it's the later. All I have to say to you is go back to hypocritiztan it's your only country.

Missing formerlebaniz 19 March 2013, 00:27

No FT you got that wrong I don't make bets because of personal opinions I make bets based on trends and past experience.

I'm glad you are saying Samaha betrayed Lebanon that's some GOOD progress! Who did he betray Lebanon for? Who gave him his mission, the bombs, the directive? Israel, US, Saudi Arabia? No SYRIA our supposed brotherly friendly alley. Samaha might have betrayed his country but he was just a knight and his king.

If someone killed you because he was ordered to, him and who ordered him are the culprits.

Why do I bring this as an example!?!?! Because contrary to your believes not everyone has amnesia and forget all the bad things this brotherly Ba'ath regime of yours has done/tried doing and will do to us if we don't obey.

Missing formerlebaniz 19 March 2013, 02:40

I cerainly am not judging your opinion about the Syrian opposition based on what you said in this thread. I've seen SEVERAL HUNDRED of your posts which are if not sympathetic flatout brotherly to the current Syrian regime.

To be taken respectfully FT, you need to treat people on this forum in the same manner, and stop posting outrageous comments banking on them forgetting yesterday's events.

Based on what you have said and clearly did not dispute, by default if Country1 attempts to kill Country2 dignitaries using spies from Country2 and evidence have been shown clear of Country1's involvement the LEAST actions taken should be severing all relations between the two nations.

Precedence:
Turkey severed relations with Israel because of the Flotilla.
Lebanon severed ties with Libya
...etc

All said guys, but at the end of the day it's the responsibility of our so called politicians / government should keep these scums from bearing arms and using our country for their own fanatical idealism. It gives us a chance to see all the brainwashed evil spirits, that follow HizbAli,(HA) how they justify the Alawite bombing of anti-Bashar supporters, in Lebanon. Yet HA are free to support the Shiite hierarchy, from Iran, thru Syria to the daheye'. Using Israel as a scarecrow to keep their weapon, against all non-Shiite. From Hitlet to Assad. yes there were wars from the very beginning of civilisation. HUMAN greed and ego, territorial just like the animal kingdom. There must have been hundreds of wars in the history of humanity and how sad MOSTLY created by men in high places who are supposed to be the protectors of woman and children on the planet. MEN who abuse the status of leadership under any rule and cause havoc have failed the human race.

Lastly I love lebanon like many lebanese does. It would be a crying shame to allow another major war on our soil NO MATTER what POLITICAL< RELIGOUS< reasons may be. I hope the war machine will stop in its tracks and consider woman and children and all of humanity.
