Grenade Explodes at Palestinian Camp in North, 11 Wounded
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةEleven people, including eight children, were injured at a Palestinian refugee camp in northern Lebanon on Wednesday when a shell left over from battles between the army and militants exploded, the National News Agency reported.
NNA said the explosion went off near Jabal Tabour school at the Nahr al-Bared refugee camp, leaving eight children and three teachers wounded.
They were taken to al-Kheir hospital in Minieh, the agency added.
Later on Wednesday, the army issued a statement saying that "a BTU rifle-fired grenade exploded at the old Nahr al-Bared camp while a group of boys were toying with it, leaving 11 Syrian nationals wounded."
"An army patrol arrived on the scene while a military expert was called in to the blast's site and Military Police launched an investigation under the supervision of the relevant judicial authorities," the statement added.
Earlier on Wednesday, NNA reported that State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr launched a probe into the incident.
The clashes at Nahr al-Bared erupted in May 2007 and ended in September of that year with the army defeating al-Qaida-linked Fatah al-Islam militants who had taken up base at the camp.
Over 400 people, including 168 soldiers, were killed in the battles.
