Report: Fatmagul Sultan Power Vessel Hit by Major Malfunction, Nine Generators Shut Down

إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربية W460

Nine out of 11 generators on the “Fatmagul Sultan” barge have stopped functioning, media reports said, pointing out that the power-generating vessel is only producing 15 percent of its capacity, which is 27 megawatts.

According to As Safir newspaper published on Thursday, the vessel that began its work earlier this month has several malfunctions caused by the long journey it took to arrive to Lebanon.

Sources told the daily that “the vessel's production almost stopped functioning four days ago.”

“Since it began producing electricity, Farmagul Sultan didn't reach its capacity of production as it only generated around 80 percent,” the sources noted.

They expected that the vessel will completely stop functioning if the reason behind the malfunctioning was the used fuel.

Electricite du Liban management told As Safir that the Turkish Karadeniz power company, which leased the ship to the Lebanese government, said that it was resolving the problem that occurred according to the contract signed with the Ministry of Energy.

Lebanon inked in July 2012 a $360 million three-year contract with the Turkish firm to lease electricity-generating vessels.

The two barges could generate 270 megawatts of electricity.

The second vessel is expected to arrive in June.

The power vessels should help make up for the power shortage that will be caused by the rehabilitation of the Zouk and Jiyeh power plants.

Lebanon is in need of 2,500 megawatts of electricity while the current production is only 1,500 MW.

the excellence of basil.
even the barges do not work. what is it that fpm achieve so far but empty words?

Thumb mouallek 25 April 2013, 21:11

I have predicted months ago that Karadeniz will finish by asking Lebanon for hefty indemnities. We have it. Karadeniz is pretending that their generators have ceased to function due to the bad quality of the oil. Bacille is very happy he will get his share.

Thumb banima3roof 25 April 2013, 22:48

lol so true geha. and flamer comes on here speaking highly of a ship that generates 27 MW? lol

Thumb banima3roof 25 April 2013, 22:53

Who's brilliant idea was it to use old fuel?

Thumb LEBhasNOhope 25 April 2013, 17:09

the same person getting a kickback from the company supplying the old fuel.

I am surprised FT & Co didn't show up yet to defend the situation?!

I am sure a lot of thought has been put behind choosing the provider of this service, main requirement was for the provider to be of a country with the least compliance and governmental audit requirements in order to pass on the bribes easily; and not the company with the best service.
Another win for Bassil ... after screweing the mobile lines in Lebanon there he is again doing what he does best ... bravo ya SIL your uncle raised you well

Thumb LEBhasNOhope 25 April 2013, 18:07

Either they are avoiding this story like the plague or they have no electricity so they can't use their PCs.

Thumb LEBhasNOhope 25 April 2013, 20:03

FT- It was just too easy to take that shot at you. I couldn't resist :). I hope your generator bill isn't going to be too high for you to handle now :(

Thumb Elemental 25 April 2013, 13:28

Alright (8)

Missing peace 25 April 2013, 11:49

and you clap your hands for this amazing achievement? leasing a barge that does not work after a few weeks of work? LOL yeah, your minister is very competent...
oh! and by the way: when could M14 do a thing as M8 block the gvt preventing it to do any reforms? easy to accuse a gvt that M8 block and resigned from! LOL.... tell us from which party was the minister of energy under M14 gvt? a hezbi who resigned a year after and thus block anything to be done in these matters...
so please the roar cut your crap and stick to the facts!

Missing peace 25 April 2013, 12:10

no i am laughing at M8 arrogance saying that bassil is the best energy minister ever! and the one who is finding excuses for this failure using examples that are not comparable is you! you cannot admit that this barge you M8ers have been so proud of saying that it will solve all electricity problems is malfunctionning! so you bug and accuse me of being whatever makes you feel better in your anger and frustration.
as you have nothing sensible to say you accuse me of having orgasms! LOL... typical from someone who cannot argue smartly....
and escapes the debate by starting insulting.... and you talk about respect of others? LOL.......

Missing peace 25 April 2013, 12:26

so funny the roar... he cannot think logically... sorry i criticize M8. but M8ers hate those who are against them like yourself.

how can YOU deserve respect when you claim to be proud to be not lebanese "Aussie indeed, Lebanese no thanks." then come and insult lebanese? i did not insult you nor said bad words but YOU are starting because YOU feel ill at ease... typical from people who feel cornered... but you want to start insulting? be my guest if it make you come and have orgasms behind your screen....
and all i have written is logic... you believe to know better than a judge who released one prisonner out of three! have you read the investigation file? are you an expert to judge? NO, so your stupid remarks are irrelevant... you just start to be aggressive because you have nothing to say just blind hatred of those who do not share your views, aussie!

Missing samiam 25 April 2013, 15:03

roar--people have to EARN respect, not on what they say, but rather what they do (or don't do) and how they handle adversity. If you follow Bassil's behavior, he blames the problems on everyone else instead of tackling to solve them. That is called scapegoating doesn't earn him any respect in my eyes.

A person in his position should be SOLVING problems, not blaming others for it. Some of the highest paid people in the world are the problem solvers, not players of the blame game.

do you remember under hariri how many hours of electricity we had? to the point that generators were no more in use....it was even question to remove them but who lobbied to keep them and is the biggest owner of private generators? ... think a bit :)

and no extra hours where i live, einstein....

Missing peace 25 April 2013, 11:59

Thumb Elemental 25 April 2013, 12:03

Well my Aussie Lebanese counterpart who's not even here, the hours have been back to their regular times on and off, as if there's been no change.

Missing peace 25 April 2013, 12:12

under hariri too we had extra hours.... but that does not fit your M8 propaganda does it?

Missing maroun 25 April 2013, 14:23

i thought electricity was on 24/7 in Australia, you might have an outage for few hours once every few years ,how does that compare with Lebanon,if your lucky you might get 5 hours of electricity everyday all year round ..i thought you were stupid but this confirms it

Thumb andre.jabbour 25 April 2013, 15:25

Missing samiam 25 April 2013, 22:00

so, question for you again, Basil has been minister for FOUR years--how many power plants have been built or are being built during his tenure?

Need a hint...

RESULTS are the bottom line, not wishwashy warm fuzzy feelings because you have a mancrush on him. H

Missing samiam 26 April 2013, 08:20

FOUR YEARS

If he couldn't manage to do it, he should have stepped down. That would have been the honorable thing to do, but we know he has no honor. Your excuses and rationalizations for his failures though are simply mindblowing. And, explain why privatizing EDL when it is losing $6B per year is a bad thing. Is it because a private company may cut off the electricity on your allies who are notorious for not paying their bills or is there another sinister reason? Math don't lie--people do.

Missing samiam 26 April 2013, 13:05

First off, I am not M14. While I share more values with M14 than M8, I am neither, so don't personalize the debate like I am M14. Second, M14 hasn't held the ministry in many many years, so the problems in the ministry are self afflicted by M8 and you blaming the other side is typical hypocrisy. Third, why shouldn't EDL be privatized--you have given a single argument against it. While EDL does provide a third of the government revenues, it is still too unprofitable and keeps increasing the government debt with little hope of recovery. The reason why it is around is because of the CASH which politicians crave--take the cash out the hands of the politicians, and it would be better spent elsewhere.

Missing maroun 26 April 2013, 04:48

-Flamethrower-why would the M14 want to run the EDL to the ground and buy it next to nothing..they would go broke since they can't make your friends in the Hizb to pay there bill.?
