Briton Killed in Syria, UK Foreign Office Confirms
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةA British national has been killed in Syria, the Foreign Office confirmed on Friday, after a monitoring group said that Syrian soldiers killed three westerners.
"We understand that a British national has been killed in Syria. Their family have been informed and we are providing consular assistance," a Foreign Office spokesman said.
The Foreign Office did not provide further details or identify the British national.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights had said on Thursday that three westerners including a U.S. woman and a British man, both Muslims, were killed in northwest Idlib province near the Turkish border on Wednesday.
The three had apparently been taking photos of military positions on the road between Harim and the town of Idlib further south when government troops ambushed them, said Rami Abdel Rahman, director of the monitoring group.
The nationality of the third Westerner was not clear, said Rahman.
