Report: CIA Informs Security Agencies of al-Qaida Groups Plotting Attacks in Lebanon

إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربية W460

The U.S. Central Intelligence Agency has warned Lebanese security agencies two days ahead of the blast that targeted Bir al-Abed neighborhood in Beirut's southern suburbs that al-Qaida has plotted to carry out an attack in the area, a report claimed on Thursday.

According to al-Akhbar newspaper, al-Qaida-linked group transported a huge amount of explosives into Lebanon to be used in the country.

Security and political sources told the newspaper that a CIA official in Lebanon provided the army intelligence and the ISF Intelligence Branch with “delicate information” regarding the matter.

The CIA report pointed out that an al-Qaida-linked-group prepared two bombs, each weigh 7 tons, to target buildings in Beirut's southern suburbs using suicide bombers.

The report said that the group is also active in Syria.

At least 53 people were wounded in an explosion that was caused by a booby-trapped vehicle in the Hizbullah stronghold neighborhood of Bir al-Abed on Tuesday.

Another report said that another al-Qaida-affiliated group transported around 2,000 kilograms of explosives into Lebanon to target the Lebanese army, Hizbullah, Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Awadh al-Asiri and Kuwaiti Ambassador Abdul al-Qinaai in addition to Russian and Chinese diplomats.

A third CIA report included detailed information on the head of an armed group that is responsible for firing rockets on the Bekaa city of Baalbek.

According to the last report, the head of the group is a Syrian national, who is leading the operations from the region of Reef Damascus.

The Baalbek region and several border areas have been targeted by dozens of rockets from the neighboring country Syria.

Al-Akhbar pointed out that the heads of the Lebanese security agencies didn't inform politicians of the matter but rather stressed on the importance of obtaining the full telecom data.

Officially neutral in Syria's conflict, Lebanon is deeply divided into pro- and anti-Assad camps.

Lebanon has suffered an escalating spillover of Syria's more than two-year conflict and Hizbullah's role in Syria has set off a mounting backlash from the rebels who threatened to target the group's bases in Lebanon if it does not withdraw its fighters.

The Gates of Hell have just been unlocked and the doors are starting to open. Do the Lebanese have the foresight (or the memory of 1975) to collectively push the gates to close?

Thumb _mowaten_ 11 July 2013, 13:59

lol how do you think the CIA knows about it? they got an order for some milk and blankets from the great freedom fighters in syria and sent them a few crates through TNT (the courier company of course, nothing to do with explosives).

Give the power to the moderate people, or put one determined s.o.b. in charge that no one dares to come across and confront who has the drive to oust all the filth from Lebanon and clean up this mess once and for all.

Missing VINCENT 11 July 2013, 22:13

I do not support either camp and/or prescribe to the views of any religious organization outside the privacy of my home and church. Having said that, arguably, a lot of people will agree with you and may be correct regarding Mr. Nassrallah's commitment and meaningful involvement for Lebanon's security and welfare. However, he would not be the correct choice to lead Lebanon out of this mess since he, his party and supporters like H.A., Syria and Iran have been, and still are, interested parties and inextricably connected to the mess we are in, and do not have clean hands.

May god protect the Lebanese people.

Thumb jabal10452 11 July 2013, 09:23

7 TONS? The bomb that hit the marines in Beirut in 1983 was 5,4 tons, and was back then called the most powerful non-nuclear explosion since WWII.

Thumb jabal10452 11 July 2013, 12:30

Go figure, bro.. go figure.

If the Lebanese don't unite to fight this hellspawn then the country is doomed.

Thumb primesuspect 11 July 2013, 15:07

it's already hell for sunni and christians since 2005. now it generalizes to the shias as well.... let them get a taste of wat they gave us for 8 years.

Thumb Lebanon4life 11 July 2013, 10:23

Now there should be a reason to unite !!! If we Lebanese don't unite I am afraid that we will witness a new civil war or at least a situation like in Iraq. Everyone should reconsider his speech because we are all to blame for this situation !!!

Why was my comment erased? As I had said we have some fools here who believe (because their master said so) that there is a USA-Israeli-GCC-takfiris-al Qaida alliance working against the resisting Syria. Can said fools explain why the American intelligence would warn their enemies of an impeding attack by one of its allies? Those who repeated their masters words in an attempt to look politically intelligent have proved once and for all that they are nothing close to that and are just conditioned individuals that swallow what ANY politician spews. Or I could be wrong and this creative alliance is falling apart like the M8 coalition and hopefully the M14 coalition soon.

Thumb _mowaten_ 11 July 2013, 14:03

maybe to throw off suspicion for "smart" people like you, maybe to divert attention from some agents of theirs who might be behind it, maybe to scare the lebanese people... who knows? things are never that simple.

Thumb arzak-ya-libnan 11 July 2013, 15:54

Well gracias. Here I thought they were saying that the CIA warned prior to the bombing. Again you guys are saying that the USA and al Qaida are allies. Please answer my riddle with what you think is the answer. Why would the USA warn the Lebanese security apparatus of an impeding attack against HA ( their enemy) by al Qaida ( their ally). Please teach us all how to be "smart".

Thumb Senescence 11 July 2013, 18:59

The US's machinations are beyond the comprehension of the commoners, mainly due to a lack of data of course.
Whether their plans fail or succeed, both roads lead to the gain of interests. They plan for the failure or success of said plans. One can easily hypothesize a dozen reasons quite easily.

_mowaten, is that what HA did when they showed a video proving Israel's watching the movement of Harriri ............ was that to throw off suspicion as well?

Thank you March 14 for making it easy for terrorists to enter Lebanon through its ports and for giving them cover and shelter in Hariri Mafia's al-Qaeda Land of Tripoli, Akkar and Sidon. This is Lebanon's twenty-first century Pales-Syrian problem mixed with the Sanni Boom and Blast Lunatics. ramadan karim jiddan! takbir.

You are also part of the problem. We can no longer take sides between the two religious groups and/or camps. No more business as usual.

You must be Israeli, Syrian Baath, Iranian or HA ........
we Lebanese do not appreciate your lack of love for Lebanon.

Missing Lebanonwbass 12 July 2013, 00:08

Who funds Al Quaeda then if they are planning attacks on everybody except Israel... something is wrong with this picture. it is obvious Israel is working hard in creating a sunni shiie war. It is so easy for them and they know it, especially when most Lebanese are ignorant followers and are already divided according to religion. I don't believe this statement of the CIA is correct, I think it is more of a tactic card played in tandem with the bombing to divert attention from the truth and as a cover up for Israel. come on people, do you think Al Quaed really exist?

Missing helicopter 12 July 2013, 02:30

When we are united on the main issues ( Sovereignty, Liberty, Justice, Constitution ) then no matter how many conspiracies are woven Lebanon will be safe.
When only the LAF and ISF carry arms everything else falls in place.

Actually, with this blast and potential future ones around the same area, cheikh Saad al-Haribi Telteyn al-Marajil's al-Qaeda buddies, aka Sanni Lunatics of the Levant, wants to prepare the ground for constructing of a new airport in which cheikh al-Haribi will land on his return to Lebanon (bel meshmosh) now that his long-sought glorious comeback to our prairies through Damascus airport looks like a fantasy, especially when we consider Dr. Arreet 7akeh's prediction that the "ASSad" regime MIGHT fall again and again and again in 2013. We all know, and I assume cheikh al-Haribi knows it, too, that when Dr. Arreet 7akeh says something... well... umm... duh... no sane person takes his words seriously. It goes without saying that this excludes his followers, Drs. Arteena Satleh. This cheikh Saad al-Haribi Telteyn al-Marajil is one clever dude, wouldn't you say?
