Lebanese authorities were handed the wife of a pro-government Syrian journalist killed in southern Lebanon last week after she attended her husband's funeral in Syria, al-Akhbar newspaper reported on Wednesday.

The daily said that Syrian authorities handed Siham Younis to officers from the General Security Department at al-Arida border crossing in the North on Tuesday night after several suspects admitted that she planned for the murder of her husband Mohammed Darrar Jammo.

LBCI television later reported however that Jammo's wife was not handed over to Lebanon by Syria, revealing she was arrested as she was crossing the al-Arida border crossing.

Jammo was buried in Latakia on Syria's Mediterranean coast last Friday.

The 44-year-old journalist and political commentator was one of Syrian President Bashar Assad's and Hizbullah's most vociferous defenders.

In frequent appearances on television talk shows, he would staunchly support the Syrian regime's strong-armed response to the uprising and in at least one case shouted down opposition figures, calling them "traitors."

He was killed when his wife's relatives burst into the first floor of his apartment in the town of Sarafand and opened fire on him.

Initial reports that the murder was politically motivated were ruled out when security forces detained the relatives.

The army confirmed in a communique that military intelligence identified the killers and captured the weapons used in the killing.

But Younis has denied any connection to the murder.

"What's going on?... He's been my husband for 20 years," Younis told al-Jadeed TV last week.

God Bless the army intelligence for uncovering those behind this horrific act and the majdal anjar terrorist act on a convoy of the Islamic Secular Resistance that was on a jihadist mission in Syria to liberate lebanese-inhabited villages in Aleppo and Homs. The effectiveness of army intelligence is obvious as it can find criminals who plant bombs in the barren fields of majda anjar. I wish the government would let the army intelligence investigate the murder of martyr Salman in front of the iranian embassy. After all, this case should be relatively easy considering it was on TV and the photos of the murderers were on every newspaper. Just food for thought:)

Heaven forbid RFT. And let us assume they do investigate. And the obvious that HA was involved is revealed. (Even though I don't think HA leadership ordered his killing) what do you think will happen? That he or they will be handed over to justice. Wain mafakar 7allak 3eyish? Ma tighlat 3ala 2ashraf il Nass. It is enshrined in our constitution. Article 9762 paragraphs 69 and 666 (otherwise known as the HA bill of rights)clearly state they are above the law. Are you questioning our constitution?

who you think sent those thugs to beat up and kill the protesters? The political wing of HA maybe?:)

ya RFT, what do you want them to investigate about? as you say it was all filmed, the salman case is pretty clear from the start.

just in case you somehow missed it: one of his associate pulled out a gun and opened fire in front of the embassy, triggering a response by the security agents.
