Egypt VP, Nobel Laureate ElBaradei Announces Resignation
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةEgyptian vice president, Nobel laureate Mohammed ElBaradei, announced his resignation in a letter to the interim president on Wednesday seen by Agence France Presse.
The resignation comes after scores were killed in a crackdown by security forces on loyalists of ousted Islamist president Mohammed Morsi.
"It has become too difficult to continue bearing responsibility for decisions I do not agree with and whose consequences I fear," ElBaradei said.
He said his conscience was troubled over the loss of life "particularly as I believe it could have been avoided".
"Unfortunately those who gain from what happened today are those who call for violence and terror, the extremist groups," he said.
The situation is difficult and violence always benefits the extremists who climb on the corpses to scream fro revenge....
I sympathize with the guy.He continuously supported discourse and dialogue and unity and unequivocally called for unification of fractions to build a better Egypt, but the recalcitrant MB wouldn't comply even after all the warning signs for Morsi, even after the ultimatums, even after the wreckage of the country at his hands, and still the MB was abstruse.Mr. Elbaradei did not resign because he in any way admits the disposal of Morsi was wrong, he resigned it seems because of the ethical issue in how the innocent and coerced protestors were handled (most of them left peacefully). What else could have the government done the poor things? They've invited the MB for dialogue countless times and gave dozens of warnings to Morsi as to his actions leading the country into the brick wall, but he did not heed their warnings and neither the please of the people for a better life.In fact, they got poorer and more desperate.
Hopefully the calm will persist in the coming weeks as it does as of today.
Salafists and MB are competing for the hearts and souls of the devoted and feeble minds. It is intolerant ideologies such as theirs and HA/s and Baathists that keep the Middle East in turmoil and racing backwards to the stone age.
