Aoun: Dahieh Blast Should Motivate us to Form National Unity Government

Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun condemned on Friday the blast that took place in Beirut's southern suburb of Ruwais on Thursday, saying it should motivate leaders to form a new government.

He told OTV: “The attack may be a valid excuse to form a national unity cabinet because all powers are being targeted.”

He also refuted claims that Hizbullah is “paying the price for its fighting in Syria, because the crisis was ongoing before it got involved in unrest.”

“Is the party the only side taking part in the unrest? Isn't Turkey funding the fighting? Aren't Arab countries sending fighters to Syria?” asked the MP.

“The Dahieh blast indicates that no one can be immune from such terrorist attacks. Anyone can be reached directly or indirectly,” Aoun remarked.

Moreover, he warned: “We have entered the phase of terrorism in Lebanon.”

“We are all in agreement that this phase requires the strong rule of government,” he stressed.

At least 21 people were killed and 200 wounded in a car bomb attack in Hizbullah's stronghold in Beirut's southern suburbs on Thursday.

The blast went off on the public road between Bir al-Abed and Ruwais.

Later on Thursday, a group calling itself the Brigades of Aisha Umm al-Moemeneen claimed the bombing in a YouTube video and threatened further attacks over Hizbullah's involvement in the fighting in Syria.

On July 9, a booby-trapped car exploded at a parking lot in Bir al-Abed, leaving 53 people wounded and causing extensive material damage.

In May, two rockets slammed into the Beirut southern suburb of Shiyyah, wounding four people.

Wow this guy never misses an opportunity to play politics! :/

Be quiet, ur not getting ur way, even ur allies are against u. The last thing we need now is more disagreement in government! We need a neutral cabinet, and we need it to start tackling our issues ASAP!

Mistake after mistake, and he's still acting like the savior of Lebanon! And since he couldn't rule directly, he's trying to do it through his family members... He's just another jumblatt, frenjiyi, harriri, etc.

What a disappointment, aoun and HA gave each other a blank checks to rule the country... N what did they do?... They bickered over government posts, and generator ships lol

I don't want a national unity government.... the blast won't change a thing. For now, the solution is a technocratic government lead by Mister Salam.

Hezbollah must be contained, a quarantine line must be built around them.

A thousand times yes! and all new state officials, including you, General, should tattoo HA's logo on their forehead as a sign of fealty. I like the way you think Southern! We'll have this country speaking Farsi in no time :)

I had two Russian generals in my family, they both died on the battlefield in St Pete and in Oural mountains.

I have a retired lebanese general in my family....... He's still alive, he never ran away either.

What amazes me is when Aoun only speaks about the turks and the Arab states financing the war in Syria without even mentioning the main weapons supplier to the regime which is Russia. The arab countries and Turkey my dear Aoun are not involving themselves directly like HA. HA opted to involve itself directly in the war in Syria despite the fact that more than 90% of the Lebanese oppose him. He's talking Lebanon hostage and is playing with fire. not a single time in the Lebanese war did HA get attacked; that's why they see this as an anomaly because they think only the stupid lebanese should only be the ones targeted by bombs. This double standards is reprehensible. Enough of war guys; we need economics and life instead of death. I support no party in Lebanon because all are useless. I only support what's good for Lebanon from wherever this comes from. This is what we all should do.

I've been surfing online more than three hours today,
yet I never found any interesting article like yours.
It's pretty worth enough for me. In my opinion,
if all website owners and bloggers made good content as you did, the internet will
be a lot more useful than ever before.
