Hamas Supporters Rally against Sisi in Jerusalem

Hundreds of Hamas supporters rallied on Friday at Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa mosque compound in protest against Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, the army chief who ousted Egypt's Islamist president Mohammed Morsi.

Some 600 people affiliated with the Palestinian Islamist movement that rules the Gaza Strip held the demonstration after Friday prayers, an Agence France Presse correspondent said.

They also conducted a special prayer for the hundreds of Morsi loyalists killed on Wednesday when security forces dispersed Cairo protest camps set up by Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood supporters.

The demonstrators, who held posters commemorating the dead, called Sisi an "American collaborator" who served Israel and chanted that Morsi was still Egypt's president.

Some posters bore pictures of Sisi and Hitler, with captions stating the Nazi leader had "killed Jews for his people," while the Egyptian army chief "killed his people for the Jews".

Other Islamist movements also took part in the demonstration, with Israeli police not intervening.

In the southern West Bank city Hebron, hundreds of Palestinians -- mainly Hamas supporters -- held a rally in support of Morsi and against Sisi, an AFP correspondent said.

The demonstrators, including women, carried Palestinian, Egyptian and Hamas flags as well as posters in support of the ousted Egyptian president as they attempted to march after prayers at a mosque in the city center.

But they were blocked after a short distance by ruling Palestinian Authority security forces, who are Hamas rivals. In ensuing clashes one demonstrator was wounded and several were arrested, the correspondent said.

A large rally in support of Morsi was being planned by the northern faction of the Israeli Islamic Movement for Saturday afternoon.
