U.S. Says Russia 'Swimming against Tide' on Syria Chemical Arms

The United States said Tuesday that Russia is ignoring "the facts" in Syria when it accuses the rebels, rather than the regime, of staging the August 21 chemical weapons attack near Damascus.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Tuesday that Moscow believes the August 21 gassing was a "provocation."
The sparring comes even after the United States and Russia reached a sweeping weekend agreement designed to rid Syria of chemical weapons by mid 2014. That surprise deal headed off U.S. military strikes that had seemed imminent just two weeks ago as a way to punish Damascus for the chemical attack and prevent another.
A U.N. report released Monday says chemical weapons were used in Syria, but it avoided saying by whom.
But the United States and its allies are fervent in their belief that the forces of President Bashar Assad used the banned chemical weapons against its own civilians.
"He's swimming against the tide of international public opinion, but more importantly, the facts," State Department spokeswoman Jennifer Psaki said, referring to Lavrov.
The U.N. report, "confirms unequivocally that chemical weapons, including the nerve agent sarin, were used in Syria. We all know that. But based on our preliminary view of information contained in the report, several crucial details confirmed the Assad regime's guilt in carrying out this attack," Psaki said.

Obama said it: "I will fundamentally change the U.S.A." He also said" "the United States shouldn't take a leading role in trying to solve foreign affairs". Basically, lead from behind which is exactly what he has done. Also, like I have said on Naharnet before, "Obama would do anything to avoid taking any military action in Syria", or any other country to that respect. The facts are the facts. May be you are correct, and the world would be better off w/o the U.S. leading foreign affairs and act like the police and believe that the American people are sick and tired. Lets see how other 2nd grade super powers, with their own agenda to secure commerce, deal with world problems. A clue, you may want to look and see how and what they do things domestically and how they treat their own people.

Abass: For God's and humanity's sake, before the invasion, Saddam gassed 5,000 Kurds just in one day, and it is estimated that he gassed up to 50,000 in a ten-year period excluding Iranian soldiers during the Iran/Iraq war. One of his Generals has even written a book that Saddam moved his C.Ms. to Syria before the U.S. could find them. These C.Ms. are now being transported back to Iraq for safe keeping.
