Syria rebels name Mohammed al-Bashir head of transitional govt
Members of the Syrian government under ousted President Bashar Assad will gradually transfer power to a new transitional cabinet headed by Mohammed al-Bashir.
The outgoing government met with al-Bashir for the first time since Assad fled Damascus over the weekend.
Al-Bashir told reporters after the meeting that the ministers discussed transferring the portfolios to the interim government during the transitional period until the beginning of March.
He said that in the coming days the new government will decide on each ministry.
Syrian rebel leader Abu Mohammed al-Jolani had met with outgoing Syrian prime minister Mohammed al-Jalali and discussed the "transfer of power".
Jolani, now using his real name Ahmed al-Sharaa, met Jalali "to coordinate a transfer of power that guarantees the provision of services" to Syria’s people, said a statement posted on the rebels’ Telegram channels, while a short video of the meeting showed it was also attended by Mohammed Bashir, who heads the rebels’ "Salvation Government" in their northwest Syria bastion.
