Sirens in central Israel as army says projectile launched form Yemen

Air raid sirens sounded across central Israel and Jerusalem on Tuesday as the military said it had detected a projectile launched from Yemen.

"The IDF (military) has identified the launch of a missile from Yemen toward Israeli territory," the military said in a statement, adding that sirens were sounded in several areas. AFP reporters heard loud booms over Jerusalem, similar to past interceptions.

Syria rescuers say two killed in drone strikes on northwest

Two people were killed in separate drone strikes Tuesday on a car and a motorcycle in the northwestern bastion of the Islamist former rebels who now head the Syrian government, rescuers said.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the twin drone strikes in the Idlib region but a U.S.-led coalition in Syria has carried out past strikes on jihadists in the area.

Aoun meets Le Drian, condemns attacks on UNIFIL

After a meeting with French envoy Jean-Yves Le Drian, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned "the occasional attacks on UNIFIL patrols", calling them "unjustified and unacceptable".

There have been several confrontations between people in south Lebanon, where Hezbollah holds sway, and U.N. peacekeepers in recent weeks.

EU adds Lebanon to 'high-risk' money-laundering list

The EU on Tuesday announced the removal of the United Arab Emirates from its money-laundering "high-risk" list but added Lebanon alongside nine other jurisdictions.

The European Commission said it added Algeria, Angola, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Laos, Lebanon, Namibia, Nepal and Venezuela, along with Monaco, to the list of countries that need extra monitoring of their money laundering controls.

Gaza-bound activist convoy enters Libya from Tunisia

Hundreds of pro-Palestinian activists taking part in a convoy crossed the Tunisian border on Tuesday into Libya, aiming to keep heading eastwards until they break Israel's blockade on the Palestinian territory, organizers said.

This comes after Israel intercepted an aid ship attempting to breach its blockade on Gaza, which was carrying 12 people, including campaigner Greta Thunberg and European parliament member Franco-Palestinian Rima Hassan.

Abbas tells Macron supports demilitarization of Hamas

Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas has said that Hamas "must hand over its weapons" and called for the deployment of international forces to protect "the Palestinian people", France announced on Tuesday.

In a letter addressed on Monday to French President Emmanuel Macron and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who this month will co-chair a conference on a two-state solution for Israel and the Palestinians, Abbas outlined the main steps that he thinks must be taken to end the war in Gaza and achieve peace in the Middle East.

Iran says new round of US talks planned for Sunday

Iran's foreign ministry has said a new round of nuclear talks with the United States is being planned for Sunday, after President Donald Trump said it was expected on Thursday.

"The next round of Iran-US indirect talks is being planned for next Sunday in Muscat," foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said in a statement Tuesday, adding foreign minister and chief negotiator Abbas Araghchi would this week attend the Norway's Oslo Forum, a gathering of conflict mediators.
