Justin Timberlake stole the show late Sunday at the MTV Video Music Awards ceremony, singing several of his top hits and surprising fans with reunion of his old band N Sync.

Timberlake, wildly cheered and applauded by the crowd packed into the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, received the night's most important prize -- the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award for career achievements. He also won the Video of the Year award for the song "Mirrors."

Lawyers signed a deal Friday to drop a discrimination and sexual harassment lawsuit against celebrity cook Paula Deen, who was dropped by the Food Network and other business partners after she said under oath that she had used racial slurs in the past.

A document filed in U.S. District Court in Savannah said both sides agreed to drop the lawsuit "without any award of costs or fees to any party." No other details of the agreement were released. The judge in the case had not signed an order to finalize the dismissal.

Toronto's larger-than-life mayor took down wrestling star Hulk Hogan in a friendly arm-wrestling match Friday to kick off an annual pop culture convention.

The casting of Hollywood A-lister Ben Affleck as the new Batman sparked fan outrage Friday, with petitions calling for the coveted role to be recast and widespread howling on Twitter.

Warner Bros. announced Thursday that Affleck -- who earlier this year was the darling of Tinseltown when his "Argo" took home the Oscar for best picture -- would next don the Dark Knight's cape.

Award-winning playwright Yael Farber, whose new work focuses on the fatal gang-rape of an Indian student last December, was inspired by the protests that erupted across the country after the attack.
