It is known as the city of music and as a destination for fans of the music of Mozart and Brahms.

But now a musical extravaganza of a different variety is making its way to Vienna: the Eurovision Song Contest.

The French actor Alain Delon has undergone surgery after being admitted to hospital in Paris with severe back pain, French media reported Wednesday.

The 78-year-old star, who came to embody late 1960s French cinematic cool in films such as "The Samurai", had recently appeared on stage in the French capital with his daughter Anouchka in the play "An Ordinary Day".

A 198-carat white diamond of excellent quality has been discovered in Lesotho, mining firm Gem Diamonds announced Tuesday.

The stone was found in the Letseng mine in the kingdom's northern Maluti mountains in July, the firm said in a statement.
