Golden Globe organizers unveil nominations for their annual movie awards show Thursday, as Hollywood's honors season gets into full swing with a bumper cast of hotly-tipped contenders.

Steve McQueen's historic saga "12 Years a Slave," Jon Wells' dysfunctional family adaptation "August: Osage County," Jean-Marc Vallee's AIDS drama "Dallas Buyers Club," the White House servant tale "Lee Daniel's The Butler" top the list of outstanding performances for the 20th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards with three nominations each.

Each film was nominated Wednesday for overall performance by their casts. Also nominated for best ensemble cast was David O. Russell's 1970s con artist romp "American Hustle."

Kate Winslet Gives Birth to a Little Rock'n'roll

Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet gave birth to a baby boy at the weekend, her third child, but her first with new husband Ned RocknRoll, her spokeswoman said on Wednesday.

"Baby Boy Winslet" was born on Saturday at a state-run National Health Service Hospital in Sussex, southeast England, the spokeswoman said, adding: "Mother and baby are doing great."

Pope Francis is Time Person of the Year

Time magazine on Wednesday named Pope Francis its person of the year, saying that in nine months in office the head of the Catholic Church had become a new voice of conscience.

"For pulling the papacy out of the palace and into the streets, for committing the world's largest church to confronting its deepest needs and for balancing judgment with mercy, Pope Francis is TIME's 2013 Person of the Year," wrote managing editor Nancy Gibbs.

There’s a lot riding on “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.” A lot of people felt that “An Unexpected Journey” was bloated and overlong, and while I do somewhat agree with those sentiments, I still loved the flick. Either way, if you were disappointed with part one or went absolutely bonkers over it, “The Desolation of Smaug” is a superb sequel that treats us to another grand adventure in Middle Earth, courtesy of the amazing Peter Jackson.

Disney animated musical "Frozen" extinguished the box-office flames of "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" to take top spot as the highest-earning movie in North American theaters this weekend, industry figures showed Monday.

The 53rd movie in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series, which began with "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" in 1937, "Frozen" is loosely based on Hans Christian Andersen's classic fairytale "The Snow Queen."
