Golden Globe organizers unveil nominations for their annual movie awards show Thursday, as Hollywood's honors season gets into full swing with a bumper cast of hotly-tipped contenders.

Historical drama "12 Years a Slave" got an early boost on the eve of the Globes nominations, topping the Screen Actors Guild (SAGs) nods Wednesday with four.

Steve McQueen's historic saga "12 Years a Slave," Jon Wells' dysfunctional family adaptation "August: Osage County," Jean-Marc Vallee's AIDS drama "Dallas Buyers Club," the White House servant tale "Lee Daniel's The Butler" top the list of outstanding performances for the 20th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards with three nominations each.

Each film was nominated Wednesday for overall performance by their casts. Also nominated for best ensemble cast was David O. Russell's 1970s con artist romp "American Hustle."

Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet gave birth to a baby boy at the weekend, her third child, but her first with new husband Ned RocknRoll, her spokeswoman said on Wednesday.

"Baby Boy Winslet" was born on Saturday at a state-run National Health Service Hospital in Sussex, southeast England, the spokeswoman said, adding: "Mother and baby are doing great."

Time magazine on Wednesday named Pope Francis its person of the year, saying that in nine months in office the head of the Catholic Church had become a new voice of conscience.

"For pulling the papacy out of the palace and into the streets, for committing the world's largest church to confronting its deepest needs and for balancing judgment with mercy, Pope Francis is TIME's 2013 Person of the Year," wrote managing editor Nancy Gibbs.

MTV's college channel has gone in two wildly different directions in naming Pope Francis and pop singer Lorde as its man and woman of the year.

MTVU said Tuesday that both figures challenged their followers with unexpected stands.

While she's excited her ballad "Just Give Me a Reason" is nominated for the song of the year Grammy, Pink says she believes her husband deserves some credit for its success.

The track, which topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for three weeks, is about holding on to a troubled relationship.

Drew Barrymore isn't exactly feeling the pregnancy glow.

"I feel so lucky to make healthy kids that I will never complain about anything because I just know how lucky I am," the 38-year-old actress said at a recent event for her beauty brand, Flower. "But I definitely don't feel superhot. I feel more like an Oompa Loompa."

Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld took inspiration from the American West for his Metiers d'Art traveling fashion show, held this year in Dallas.

Models with Western-style hats and boots wore outfits adorned with fringe, leather and feathers at Tuesday night's show in Fair Park. Chanel turned an exhibition hall into a barn for the night, complete with a hay-scattered runway.

Disney animated musical "Frozen" extinguished the box-office flames of "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" to take top spot as the highest-earning movie in North American theaters this weekend, industry figures showed Monday.

The 53rd movie in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series, which began with "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" in 1937, "Frozen" is loosely based on Hans Christian Andersen's classic fairytale "The Snow Queen."
