Head of Hizbullah's politburo Ibrahim Amine al-Sayyed held talks on Wednesday with a delegation from al-Jamaa al-Islamiya headed by Azzam al-Ayoubi, the National News Agency reported.

The conferees stressed on “the resistance’s role in fortifying the future of the nation and in protecting our nations from offensive threats.”

As Syria's crackdown on protesters gets bloodier, it is having repercussions for one of Damascus' most crucial allies, eroding the reputation of Hizbullah.

At recent protests, Syrians demonstrating against President Bashar Assad have also unleashed their anger at Hizbullah over its blunt support for the regime. Some protesters have set fire to the yellow flag of Hizbullah and pictures of the group's leader, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.

Hizbullah gunmen have intercepted a group of Lebanese youths and expatriates who arrived at the barren mountains of the Bekaa town of al-Yammouneh on an ATV trip that started in Ouyoun al-Siman and passed through the Cedar Mountains and Ouyoun Orghosh, Akhbar al-Yawm news agency reported Monday.

“We took the Deir al-Ahmar-al-Yammouneh road … and we were surprised to see three khaki-clad gunmen in full combat gear standing in the middle of the road, near a guard post fortified with sand barriers,” one of the voyagers told Akhbar al-Yawm.

United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) committee said that Iran and Hizbullah are involved in killing Syrian soldiers who refused to shoot at anti-regime protesters, the French radio station reported on Saturday.

The committee reported that it will publish a detailed report from 20 pages during the upcoming days.

U.N. Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Alain Le Roy has ruled out Hizbullah allegations that its ownership of weapons has increased fivefold.

During his final press conference in New York, Le Roy said that Hizbullah is probably better organized but he ruled out that it owns fivefold of weapons it used to own before.

Phalange party leader Amin Gemayel warned Hizbullah on Friday against attempts to target the March 14-led opposition saying its project is doomed to failure.

“Hizbullah should be aware that its project is doomed to failure,” he said at the opening of the 29th Phalange conference. “We stress to Hizbullah that no one in Lebanon wants to target it but we don’t accept that it turns its arms against us.”

The office of Special Tribunal for Lebanon Prosecutor Daniel Bellemare is currently examining material hand-delivered by Hizbullah officials to Lebanon’s State Prosecutor Saeed Mirza on July 13, 2011, Bellemare’s office said in a statement Wednesday.

Hizbullah, for its part, issued a statement later on Wednesday in which it confirmed the delivery of the material to Mirza but noted that that happened at the state prosecutor’s “personal request.”

Clashes between Hizbullah and Amal movement supporters in the southern town of Adeisseh were resolved after a meeting was held on Tuesday night between officials from the two Shiite parties.

Media reports said Wednesday that the clashes first erupted several days ago after a fistfight between youths.

The Israeli navy's intelligence chief has said that militant groups close to the Jewish state, including Hizbullah and Hamas, are in possession of missiles capable of hitting all Israeli ports and offshore infrastructure such as oil rigs.

Brigadier General Yaron Levi spoke about the matter on Tuesday at a conference in Tel Aviv University, said Israeli daily Haaretz.

Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun noted on Tuesday that Lebanon enjoys a deterrent power, embodied in the equation of the army, people, and Resistance, capable of defending the country against an Israeli attack.

He said after the weekly Change and Reform bloc meeting: “This equation won’t end until the Arab-Israeli conflict is resolved, which is very difficult under the current Israeli and American policies.”
