Israel Arrests more Druze over Syrian 'Lynching'

Israeli police said Thursday they arrested three more suspects in attacks by members of the Druze minority on military ambulances transporting wounded Syrians to hospital.

In one of two incidents Monday, one Syrian was beaten to death and a second hurt, in an unprecedented outbreak of violence by Druze on the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called a "lynching."

Turkey Says in Reconciliation Talks with Israel

Turkey on Wednesday said it was holding talks with Israel over a deal to reconcile the two former allies following a deadly Israeli commando raid on a Turkish aid vessel bound for Gaza.

"It's quite normal for the two countries to talk for the normalization of the ties. How can reconciliation be achieved without holding any meetings?" Mevlut Cavusoglu told reporters in Ankara.

Israel Cancels Jerusalem Entry Permits for 500 Gazans after Rocket

Israel said Wednesday it was revoking permits for 500 Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to enter Jerusalem ahead of Friday prayers because of rocket fire from the Palestinian enclave.

A spokeswoman for COGAT, the defense ministry unit which coordinates with Gaza, told AFP the move to cancel part of its measures easing restrictions on Palestinians during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan applied to this week only and was "because of the rocket" which hit southern Israel on Tuesday night, causing no injuries.

Israel Arrests Several Druze after 'Lynching' of Syrian

Israeli police said Wednesday they had carried out a "wave of arrests" of suspects involved in two attacks by Druze on military vehicles transporting wounded Syrians to hospital.

Israeli media said nine Druze were arrested over the attacks on Monday, when a mob killed a Syrian and wounded another in the Golan Heights and an ambulance was stoned in the Galilee town of Hurfesh.

Army: Israel Hits Gaza after Palestinian Rocket Attack

The Israeli air force struck a militant target in the Gaza Strip early on Wednesday, the military said, hours after Palestinians fired a rocket into southern Israel.

"In response to this attack, the Israel Defense Forces struck the launcher from which the rocket was fired at Israel earlier," an army statement said. "A hit was confirmed."

Activists Set Sail for Gaza in New Bid to Break Israeli Blockade

Activists aboard a flotilla of boats are to soon set sail for Gaza in a fresh bid to break Israel's blockade of the territory, five years after a similar attempt ended in a deadly raid.

The so-called Freedom Flotilla III -- a convoy of ships carrying pro-Palestinian activists, at least one European lawmaker and an Arab-Israeli MP -- will try to reach the shores of the Gaza Strip by the end of the month.

Israeli Druze Block Army Vehicle to Search for Syrian Rebels

Israeli Druze on Monday blocked and threw stones at an army vehicle they believed was transferring wounded Syrian rebels for treatment, police said. 

The incident took place as concern grew for the fate in neighboring Syria of members of the Druze minority, traditional allies of President Bashar Assad, who are surrounded by rebels in the country's more than four-year civil war.
