Israel Bars Shot Palestinian from Treatment in Jerusalem

Israel has barred a Palestinian photographer allegedly shot in the eye by an Israeli soldier from entering east Jerusalem for specialist treatment, he told AFP on Wednesday.

Nidal Shtayyeh, who works for Chinese news agency Xinhua, was wounded while covering a small demonstration at Huwarra checkpoint near the northern West Bank city of Nablus on May 16.

Israeli Army Removes Lebanese Flag Lifted on Barbed Wire

An Israeli infantry unit combed Wednesday the heights of Jabal Sadana and removed a Lebanese flag hoisted the day before on a barbed wire fence, which was newly erected by Israel.

The state-run National News Agency reported that the flag, which was lifted by Development and Liberation parliamentary bloc MP Qassem Hashem and Shebaa town residents, was removed by an Israeli army unit accompanied by an armored vehicle.

Palestinian Killed in Clash with Israel Forces

A Palestinian man was killed in clashes with Israeli forces Wednesday in a northern West Bank refugee camp, medical and security sources said.

The sources said Ezzedine Ghora, 23, was hit by two bullets in his arm and chest, and died before reaching hospital.

Israel Frees Palestinian Speaker after Year Behind Bars

Israel released Tuesday the speaker of the Palestinian parliament, an AFP reporter said, after almost a year in prison following an army crackdown over the kidnapping of three Israeli teenagers. 

Aziz Dweik, speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council, was arrested on June 16, 2014 as Israel staged a massive manhunt for three teenagers who were snatched from a road in the southern West Bank by Palestinian militants linked to Hamas.

Palestinians Warn Israel over Hunger Striker Health

The Palestinian government on Tuesday warned that it held Israel responsible for hunger-striking prisoner Khadar Adnan "in danger of dying" after 36 days of protest.

"Israel is entirely responsible for the life of prisoners in administrative detention," it said in a statement, referring to a procedure under which Israel can hold Palestinian prisoners indefinitely for renewable six-month periods.

MP Hashem, Protesters Hoist Lebanon's Flag on Israeli-Erected Fence

Development and Liberation parliamentary bloc MP Qassem Hashem and Shebaa town residents hoisted on Tuesday the Lebanese flag on a barbed wire fence that was newly erected by Israel, the state-run National News Agency reported.

The lawmaker and several of the town's residents erected the flag near Jabal Sadana, it said.

Report: CIA Chief in 'Secret' Israel Talks on Iran

CIA chief John Brennan made a "secret" visit to Israel last week to discuss an emerging nuclear deal between Iran and world powers, Israel's Haaretz newspaper reported on Tuesday.

It came as a June 30 deadline looms for a deal that would row back Iran's nuclear program in return for relief from sanctions, which Israel has long opposed, causing friction with the White House.

Netanyahu Says Boycott Movement Seeking Israel 'Elimination'

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday that a Palestinian-led campaign to snub Israeli goods sought the "elimination" of Israel, following a boycott row with French telecoms giant Orange.

U.N. Keeps Israel Off Child Rights Violators List

The United Nations on Monday released a "List of Shame" of children's rights violators but did not include Israel, despite an outcry over the death of more than 500 children in the Gaza war.

Rights groups had called on Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to add Israel to the list and there was much debate among U.N. agencies ahead of the final decision that rested with the U.N. chief.
