Residents of the Jbeil district town of Hbaline blocked on Saturday all the roads leading to the controversial garbage landfill in their town, the state-run National News Agency reported.

Their move comes after the announcement of Environment Minister Mohammed al-Mashnouq that the Sukleen firm will continue collecting waste in Beirut and its suburbs in the coming days.

Supporters of the Free Patriotic Movement staged a new motorized protest Thursday in the Northern Metn region, as FPM members distributed leaflets in Jbeil and Batroun to explain demands and mobilize the public opinion.

Police arrested on Friday the Lebanese ringleader of a gang which kidnapped a six-year-old child in the Jbeil district town of Amchit last week, reports said.

Four people were arrested on Saturday in the port city of Jbeil for possessing a large quantity of hashish, the state-run National News Agency reported.

“A patrol of the Jbeil police department detained three young men and a woman and seized large quantities of hashish with them,” the NNA said.
