Jordanian Jailed over Australia Embassy Attack Threat

A Jordanian man was jailed for a year on Wednesday for threatening on Facebook to blow up the Australian embassy in Amman and to kill tourists from the country.

Ali al-Hasanat, 37, had denied any wrongdoing in a November 3 hearing at the state security court that could have been imprisoned him for up to 15 years.

Amsterdam Sends Abandoned Bicycles to Syrian Refugees

Amsterdam was due Monday to send hundreds of unwanted bicycles to help Syrian refugees get around the sprawling Zaatari camp in Jordan.

"Some 300 abandoned bicycles are set to leave Amsterdam today," said Ton Buffing, in charge of the project for Amsterdam city council.

3 French Mirage Jet Fighters Deployed in Jordan

Three French Mirage warplanes have been deployed in Jordan to assist in the fight against the Islamic State group, a military spokesman said on Saturday.

France, which is participating in U.S.-led coalition air strikes in Iraq, said this month it would deploy six jet fighters in Jordan.

Israel Says it Busted Hamas Cell Planning Attacks

Israel's Shin Bet security service said Thursday it had uncovered a vast Hamas network in the West Bank that was planning large-scale attacks against Israelis in Jerusalem.

The Shin Bet said it arrested more than 30 Hamas militants who planned to kidnap Israelis and carry out attacks against Jerusalem's light rail and its largest soccer stadium, among other targets. It said the men were trained and recruited in Jordan and Turkey and that various arms and explosives were recovered.

Obama to Host Jordan's King December 5

U.S. President Barack Obama will host Jordan's King Abdullah II at the White House December 5 to discuss ways to "calm tensions in Jerusalem," as well as other regional issues, the president's spokesman said Wednesday.

Obama will consult with the king on "efforts to counter ISIL and find a political solution in Syria, provide humanitarian assistance to refugees from the conflicts in Iraq and Syria, and take steps to calm tensions in Jerusalem," White House press secretary Josh Earnest said.

France to Send 6 Fighter Jets to Jordan against IS

The French government said that six Mirage fighter jets would be deployed to Jordan on Thursday to assist in the fight against the Islamic State group.

Defence Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian told a weekly cabinet meeting that the deployment of the six fighters would "strengthen our presence in this theatre of operations," according to government spokesman Stephane Le Foll.

Iraq Seeks Jordan Training for Troops

Iraq is seeking Jordan's military support in training its troops battling the Islamic State jihadist group, the Iraqi parliament speaker said Sunday during a visit to Amman.

"We firmly believe we need the support of the Jordanian kingdom in training our security forces," Salim al-Juburi told a press conference.

French Jets in Jordan to Join Fight against IS Group, Says PM

French fighter jets are due to arrive in Jordan soon to join operations against the Islamic State group in Iraq, Prime Minister Manuel Valls said Sunday.

"The show of strength is continuing with the arrival of Mirage planes in the coming days," Valls said during a visit to the Niger capital Niamey, adding that men and equipment were already in place in Jordan.

Jordan Arrests Brotherhood Deputy for Criticizing UAE

Jordan has arrested the deputy leader of the country's Muslim Brotherhood after he criticized the United Arab Emirates for classifying the movement as a "terrorist organization", a judicial source said Friday.

Zaki Bani Rsheid was summoned late Thursday for questioning by the state security prosecutor who later ordered his detention for 15 days, which could be extended.
