Lebanese businessmen in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar are planning to visit Gulf countries to announce their support for the Saudi-led coalition against Huthi rebels in Yemen, al-Liwaa daily reported on Tuesday.

The tour of the Lebanese expatriates is aimed at throwing their weight behind the decision of Saudi King Salman last month to carry out air strikes against the Shiite rebels to defend Yemeni President Abedrabbo Mansur Hadi's government, said the report.

Social Affairs Minister Rashid Derbas has said he was optimistic that Lebanon would receive a good share of pledges made by international donors at a conference that was held in Kuwait last week.

“We are optimistic. Lebanon's share is good,” Derbas told al-Liwaa newspaper in an interview published on Tuesday.

Kuwait's supreme court on Sunday upheld a two-year jail sentence for opposition activist Ayyad al-Harbi over tweets deemed offensive to the Gulf state's ruler.

Harbi, a journalist in his 20s at the Sabr news website, has been behind bars since May after an appeals court confirmed the original prison sentence.

Lebanon will reportedly receive 700 million dollars at most from the recent donors conference held in Kuwait aimed at helping Syrian refugees, said An Nahar daily on Saturday.

The exact number of funds has not been revealed yet, but it will receive only a third of what it actually needs, it added.

Washington is planning to increase the number of Syrian refugees allowed to resettle in the United States, mostly for vulnerable cases, a U.S. official said Thursday.

“The crisis should be managed through a more than $1 billion plan set up by the Lebanese government,” Salam said at an international conference for donors held in Kuwait.

International donors pledged $3.8 billion on Tuesday to help alleviate war-torn Syria's humanitarian crisis, which Kuwait's emir warned was the worst in "modern history."

Addressing the Arab League summit held in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh on Saturday night, Salam said Lebanon supported any decision to preserve the territorial integrity of Yemen.
