GLC Confirms General Strike on May 3

The General Labor Confederation announced on Tuesday that it will hold an expanded meeting for syndicates on May 1 on the occasion of Labor Day.

The meeting will be followed with a general strike on May 3 in protest against the rise in gas prices, it stated in a statement after a meeting for its executive office headed by Ghassan Ghosn.

Three masked gunmen robbed in broad daylight a Credit Libanais bank in Khaldeh, south of Beirut, the National News Agency reported Tuesday.

NNA said that the armed men emptied the bank’s safe and stole cash money from the employees after firing a warning shot.

Lebanese immigrant Sami Samir Hassoun, 24, admitted he took what he thought was a bomb and dropped it into a trash bin near Wrigley Field with the intent to harm many people.

Miqati, FPM Welcome Request by LF to Probe Leasing of Power Vessels

Wanted Fatah al-Islam Militants Killed in Syria

A Fatah al-Islam Lebanese militant, who was accused of targeting the Lebanese army, was killed in the Syrian city of Qsair after detonating himself accidentally, the Time reported.

According to a fellow fighter, who goes by the nom de guerre of Abu Ali, Abdul Ghani Jawhar had been preparing an explosive device to be used against the Syrian army when it went off prematurely, killing him instantly.
