Mahmoud Hayek, who is charged with the attempt on MP Butros Harb's life, expressed readiness to appear before the competent judiciary to testify in the case, media reports said on Tuesday.
“If he handed himself voluntary to the judiciary this shouldn't give anyone an excuse to exploit the matter,” sources told As Safir newspaper.

The justice minister and the general prosecutor hinted Tuesday the judiciary would issue arrest warrants against suspects involved in the deadly ambush on the army in the border town of Arsal if there is enough evidence against them.
In remarks to As Safir daily a day after his denial that he had issued arrest warrants, the prosecutor, Judge Hatem Madi, said: “The judiciary is carrying out its duties and the army intelligence is doing the necessary investigation with the suspects.”

Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri urged on Monday the residents of the Bekaa town of Arsal to cooperate with the Lebanese army for “justice to take its course”, demanding an “end to incitement at the expense of the martyrs”.
"We condemn all attempts taking advantage of the martyrs and of the incident for political gains,” Hariri said in a released statement.

Civil society activists, students and youth groups on Monday staged a sit-in at the Martyrs Square in Beirut to demand the legalization of civil marriage in the country, amid strict security measures by the army and the Internal Security Forces, state-run National News Agency reported.
Demonstrators carried banners that read “Towards a Democratic Civil Country that Respects Civil Rights” and “For a Civil Law that Ensures the Rights of Citizens and Allows Civil Marriage in Lebanon.”

The Army Command on Monday urged all citizens to “refrain from blocking roads and staging sit-ins,” after protesters took to the streets in several regions on Sunday and Monday to express solidarity with the army over the Arsal incident.
“As the Army Command extends gratitude to all citizens in all Lebanese regions who expressed their wide solidarity and sincere feelings towards the military institution after the latest developments, it urges them to refrain from blocking roads and staging sit-ins or anything that might limit citizens' freedom of movement,” it said in a statement.
Phalange Party stated on Monday its rejection of consensual security and of the concept of security zones, demanding the prosecution of all attackers targeting the Lebanese army.
"We call on the residents of (the Bekaa town of) Arsal to cooperate with the military institution,” said a statement released by the political bureau after its weekly meeting, urging them to disown the perpetrators and hand them over to the security forces.

U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Maura Connelly on Monday telephoned Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) Commander General Jean Qahwagi and expressed the United States’ “deepest condolences for LAF personnel killed and injured in Arsal,” the U.S. embassy said.
“Those LAF personnel lost and injured were engaged in the fight against violent extremists and the Ambassador underscored the shared commitment of the U.S. and Lebanese Governments in that struggle,” the embassy said in a communique.

President Michel Suleiman stressed on Monday on the importance of ending all the political statements over the electoral law that will be adopted during the upcoming parliamentary elections urging officials to prioritize the country's best interest.
“Officials should halt the rhetoric over the matter and discuss it away from any personal interest,” Suleiman said.

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat praised on Monday Syrian National Coalition chief Moaz al-Khatib's “bold” proposal to hold dialogue with the Syrian regime.
He said in his weekly editorial to the PSP-affiliated al-Anbaa website: “He may have an impossible mission on his hands, but no other alternatives to end the Syrian crisis, based on the Geneva agreement, are available.”

The Military Tribunal issued on Monday arrest warrants against two Syrian officials over their links to the case of former Minister Michel Samaha, reported the National News Agecny.
First Military Investigation Judge Riyad Abu Ghida issued the warrant against Syrian security chief Ali Mamlouk and a colonel identified only by his first name Adnan.
