Nasrallah Says Hizbullah to Facilitate Govt. Formation, Open to New Political Pact

Hizbullah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah on Sunday announced that his party will facilitate the formation of the new government as he welcomed French President Emmanuel Macron’s call for a new political pact in the country.

“We hope the parliamentary blocs will be able tomorrow to name a PM-designate who enjoys the constitutional requirements,” said Nasrallah in a televised address marking the last day of the Shiite Ashura commemorations.

Lebanon Arrests 3 Egyptians over Cairo Hotel Gang Rape Case

Lebanon's Internal Security Forces have announced the arrest of three Egyptian nationals accused of gang-raping a woman in a luxury Cairo hotel in 2014.

The ISF said in a statement it received a letter from Interpol in Egypt on August 27 with the names of seven Egyptian nationals in Lebanon "accused of raping a girl in 2014 in a Cairo hotel."

Four Soldiers Wounded in Border Clash with Smugglers

Four soldiers were injured Saturday at dawn when smugglers tossed a hand grenade at an army unit while trying to infiltrate Lebanon’s territory in Rashaya el-Wadi along the Lebanese-Syrian border, the National News Agency reported on Saturday.

The Army Command-Orientation Directorate said in a statement that clashes erupted between two smugglers and army units in said area.

Lebanon Coronavirus Cases Top 15,000

Lebanon passed the 15,000 mark for coronavirus cases on Friday, the health ministry said, as the country eased lockdown measures just a week after re-imposing them following pressure from businesses.
