Hizbullah Buries Fighter Killed in 'Syria Border Area'

More than 2,000 Hizbullah supporters gathered in the Bekaa Valley on Monday to bury one of their fighters who a security source said was killed in the border area with Syria.

Hussein Abdul Ghani al-Nimr, 35, "died while he was performing his jihadist duty," said a Hizbullah spokesman from the eastern city of Baalbek.

Residents Flee as Heavy Syrian Gunfire Targets al-Abboudiyeh

Heavy gunfire from Syria on Monday targeted the Akkar border town of al-Abboudiyeh, forcing residents to flee the area en masse.

UNIFIL Says Didn't Detect Crossing of Any Drone into Israel

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) on Monday said its radars did not detect the crossing of any surveillance drones from Lebanon into the Israeli airspace, amid Israeli suspicions that a drone shot down by Israeli warplanes on Saturday over the Negev area could have been sent by Hizbullah.

In an interview with Radio Voice of Lebanon (93.3), UNIFIL spokesman Andrea Tenenti said the U.N. peacekeeping force did not witness any event of a drone flying from Lebanon into the Israeli airspace.

Hizbullah Denies Involvement in Gebran Tueni Assassination

Hizbullah on Monday denied involvement in the 2005 assassination of prominent journalist and MP Gebran Tueni, chairman of the board of directors of An Nahar newspaper, after Al-Arabiya television broadcast Saturday a report claiming that Damascus and Hizbullah's intelligence department were behind the operation.

“Al-Arabiya's document on Hizbullah is fake and not everything published is a real document and you can tell that from the content,” Hizbullah's State Minister for Administrative Development Mohammed Fneish told reporters as he entered a cabinet session at the Grand Serail.

Jumblat Calls for Reconsidering Officials' Salaries, Reform in Public Administration

Progressive Socialist Party Leader MP Walid Jumblat said on Monday that refraining from slashing the salaries of MPs, ministers and officials will only lead to deepening the rift between the citizen and society.

A number of Nepalese members of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon were wounded on Monday when their vehicle overturned in southern Lebanon, reported the National News Agency.

It said that six members of the Nepalese unit were wounded when their pick up truck overturned while they were conducting a routine mission.

Officials Seek to Resolve Judicial Appointments by Next Week

The controversial issue of appointments is expected to be settled shortly as disputes over the matter have been resolved before President Michel Suleiman's visit to Latin America last week, An Nahar newspaper reported on Monday.
