The Kataeb party criticized Hezbollah Tuesday for "storing weapons between houses".

"Hiding weapons between houses does not support Gaza," al-Kataeb said in a statement, mentioning a strike on "an ammunition depot" in Adloun in south Lebanon.

Hezbollah has repeatedly said that it will stop its attacks if Israel halts its war with Hamas in Gaza. If that happens, both Israel and Hezbollah have “signaled to interlocutors that they would be prepared to begin negotiations for a formal truce,” three Western officials briefed on the sides’ positions and an Israeli official told the New York Times.

“Those negotiations would focus on the withdrawal of Hezbollah fighters from the southernmost areas of Lebanon and the deployment of more soldiers from Lebanon’s official military,” the officials said.

Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri has proposed a package deal involving both the presidency and the premiership, a media report said.

The Free Patriotic Movement’s leadership has so far failed to convince the Progressive Socialist Party and the National Moderation Bloc to “form a centrist force that would exert pressure in the presidential file,” a media report said.

“FPM chief MP Jebran Bassil believes that unifying the initiatives and efforts of the three parties would change the current presidential situation,” Asharq al-Awsat newspaper has reported.

An Israeli drone targeted Tuesday a pickup vehicle in the southern town of Shaqra near the border, killing at least one person.

Another person was injured in the strike, local media outlets said.

Opposition MPs filed Monday a petition asking for a parliamentary session to discuss the ongoing clashes on the southern border.

The petition asks Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri to call for a session to discuss the daily border clashes between Hezbollah and the Israeli army, in order to avoid any further escalation.

Speaker Nabih Berri has ruled out an imminent expansion of the Israeli war on Lebanon because “U.S. mediator Amos Hochstein is still communicating with him,” a prominent parliamentary source said.

Hochstein “is still hoping for a ceasefire on Gaza’s front, which is supposed to automatically apply to south Lebanon, which would allow him to move to Beirut to negotiate with him (Berri) over a settlement that would restore calm and stability based on the implementation of Resolution 1701,” the source added, in remarks to Asharq al-Awsat newspaper.

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea has accused the rival Hezbollah-led camp of “lying about everything.”

“The Axis of Defiance are ready to lie about everything. They claim that Christians do not agree on the same candidate, whereas Christians were in agreement on the same candidate, Jihad Azour, during the famous June 14, 2023 session,” Geagea said.

Hezbollah said it attacked Monday al-Malkia in northern Israel with a suicide drone, while Israeli warplanes raided the southern towns of Yater and Shihine and artillery shelled a region between Kfarkela and Odaisseh.

Also on Monday, Israeli warplanes broke the sound barrier over Nabatieh, Iqlim al-Tuffah, Tyre, Sidon, Aramoun, Bchamoun and Khalde.

French President's Special Envoy to Lebanon Jean-Yves Le Drian has visited Riyadh last week and met with Saudi Royal Court adviser Nizar al-Aloula over the Lebanese presidential file, diplomatic sources told al-Joumhouria newspaper.

Le Drian discussed with Aloula the results of the five-nation group's initiative and his last meeting with U.S. envoy Amos Hochstein, the daily said Monday.
