The official Saudi Press Agency is reporting that U.S. President Donald Trump has spoken by telephone with King Salman about the U.S. missile strike on Syria.

The news agency reports that during the Friday phone call, the Saudi monarch congratulated Trump for his "courageous decision."

A US missile strike on an airbase in central Syria early on Friday was "foolish and irresponsible," President Bashar Assad's office said.

The U.S. missile strikes on a Syrian airbase Friday demonstrated "needed resolve" against chemical attacks, EU President Donald Tusk said.

"US strikes show needed resolve against barbaric chemical attacks," tweeted Tusk, who represents the 28 EU member states, adding the bloc will work with the U.S. to "end brutality" in Syria.
