Cluster Bomb Kills Lebanese Deminer

A Lebanese deminer was killed on Wednesday in an explosion from a cluster bomb in the South left over from the 2006 war between Israel and Hizbullah, the state-run National News Agency reported.

NNA said Hussein Omar al-Kweis, who hails from Nabatiyeh, died on the outskirts of the town of Aita al-Jabal.

Counterfeit Notes Worth USD 900,000 Confiscated in Nabatieh

Members of the General Security Directorate in the southern province of Nabatieh raided a shop where currency counterfeit operations were taking place in the city and arrested its owner.

"Real bills worth USD 100,000 and counterfeit notes estimated at USD 900,000 were confiscated,” the state-run National News Agency detailed.

Reports: Five Syrians Arrested for Plotting to Bomb Ashoura Procession

The army on Friday arrested Syrian nationals who were preparing an explosive device with the aim of detonating it at an Ashoura procession set to be held on Saturday, media reports said.

"Army intelligence agents on Friday evening arrested five Syrians at a house in the Nabatiyeh neighborhood of al-Maslakh while they were preparing a 300-gram explosive device with the aim of detonating it during the Muharram (Ashoura) 9 procession that will be held tomorrow in the city of Nabatiyeh” in southern Lebanon, al-Jadeed television reported.

Syrian Families Flee Jisr al-Shughour, Idlib, Hama, Daraa to Nabatiyeh

Several southern towns in the Nabatiyeh, al-Zahrani and Tyre areas witnessed in the last few days an influx of more than 25 Syrian families fleeing the unrest in their country, Central News Agency reported Thursday.

Municipal sources in the South told the agency that some of the families were accommodated in shops due to overpopulation in the area during this time of year, while others had to reside in houses that are still under construction due to their inability to pay the rent of residential houses.

2 Anti-Confessional Regime Protestors Arrested after Burning Tires in Nabatiyeh

Security forces arrested two people for arguing with police after blocking the Hboush-Nabatiyeh main road with burning tires, the National News Agency reported Thursday.

The two men along with several other protestors were calling for the collapse of the country’s confessional system, NNA said.
