Progressive Socialist Party chief MP Walid Jumblat said on Monday that the list of corrupt politicians in Lebanon is endless, expressing surprise at the fact that the protesters held banners in Sunday's demonstration limiting corruption to only three, including him.

“Yes I am part of this political strata condemned by the popular civil society movements, and I am accused until proven guilty. But at the same time I have the right to express surprise at the fact that they have limited the accusations of corruption to only three politicians, raising their pictures in the demos,” Jumblat told As Safir daily on Monday.

Unknown assailants torched a cafe in Tyre but reports said only material damages were reported, the state-run National News Agency reported on Sunday.

Al-Halabi cafe was set on fire at dawn, and residents of the area rushed to extinguish it before the fire expanded further, NNA said.

Prime Minister Tammam Salam traveled on Sunday to the United Arab Emirates where he paid condolences to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Vice President and Ruler of Dubai over the death of his eldest son.

The Lebanese army arrested 4 Syrian suspects in a raid on the encampments of refugees in the northeastern town of Arsal, the army said.

The army raided encampments of Syrian refugees in Arsal in search for suspects where an exchange of fire erupted and led to the injury of Syrian Shadi Moussa Moussa, the Army Orientation Directorate said in a statement.

Head of the Beirut Chambers of Commerce Mohammed Choucair stressed on Thursday that the demands of the civil society campaigners are righteous but denounced the spiraling chaos in downtown Beirut that he sees as an attempt to close it down.

“We support activists who are open to logical solutions. Their demands are righteous but we strongly denounce the systematic attempts to vandalize downtown of Beirut,” said Choucair in a press conference titled To Save the Heart of Beirut.

Interior Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq emphasized on Wednesday that the latest street mobility is a warning siren that can not be neglected by politicians, assuring that the Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun's call to elect a president from the people is totally unrealistic.

“What happened in the streets is a siren to the political strata that they should take seriously and address as a new factor in every day life,” said Mashnouq in an interview to Sky News Arabia.

The Lebanese army arrested in the northeastern town of Arsal fugitive Ibrahim Qassem al-Atrash in a substantial move that could unravel additional terrorist cells that have schemed and executed bombings in several Lebanese areas.
