Free Patriotic Movement chief Jebran Bassil has anew accused Prime Minister-designate Najib Mikati of obstructing the government formation.
In a press interview published on Tuesday, Bassil said that Mikati wants to give the caretaker government presidential powers.

Activists and depositors gathered Tuesday in front of the Parliament to protest a capital control law ahead of a joint parliamentary session that will discuss it.
The so-called Change MPs refused in a press conference the capital control law. Other MPs said it was unacceptable as well, as they considered it to be unfair to the depositors.

President Michel Aoun said Monday that some parties do not want the sea border demarcation file to be finalized during his presidential term, while noting that the cabinet formation process has not been suspended.
In a meeting with a delegation from the Syndicate of the Workers of Audiovisual Media, Aoun added that Speaker Nabih Berri and PM-designate Najib Mikati can be asked about this matter, seeing as “they possess the necessary information about everything that is happening in this file.”

Lebanese singer George al-Rassi was killed at dawn Saturday in a car crash in the al-Masnaa area following his return from a concert in neighboring Syria.
He was 39 years old.
A plane belonging to Middle East Airlines -- Lebanon’s national carrier -- made an emergency landing overnight in Athens due to an engine malfunction.
The plane took off from Beirut and was headed for the Heathrow Airport in London.

A senior Hezbollah official on Thursday confirmed that his party is pushing for the formation of a new government.
There is “a need to form a fully functional government that would work to alleviate people’s suffering,” Hezbollah central council member Sheikh Nabil Qaouq said.
President Michel Aoun on Thursday dismissed media reports claiming that he intends to stay in the presidential palace until the election of a new president even if his own term expires.
“The president stressed the need to form a new government as soon as possible,” Maronite League chief Khalil Karam said after meeting Aoun in Baabda.
