The presidential elections are unlikely to be held in Lebanon given the situations on the regional and international scenes, reported the Kuwaiti al-Anba daily on Sunday.

Diplomatic sources told the daily that the government of Prime Minister Tammam Salam is likely to assume a caretaker role and take over the duties of the president should the elections be postponed.

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea stated that the situation in Lebanon is “difficult and bleak”, which is why the time is right for him to run for president, reported the pan-Arab daily Asharq al-Awsat on Thursday.

He told the daily: “We must introduce radical change over how to solve Lebanon's problems.”

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea is poised to officially declare his nomination for the presidency, after his press office announced that the party's Executive Committee will meet Friday to discuss his candidacy.

“In the presence of the LF parliamentary bloc and the party's central committees, the Executive Committee will convene on Friday at 12:00 PM in Maarab for consultations and discussions over the presidential bid of party leader Samir Geagea,” Geagea's office said.

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea announced Sunday that the LF will boycott Monday's national dialogue session because “Hizbullah is not ready for dialogue,” noting that he is willing to vote for Free Patriotic Movement chief Michel Aoun in the presidential election if he pledges to withdraw Hizbullah's fighters from Syria.

“We did not attend the 2012 dialogue sessions because we knew that Hizbullah was not serious about dialogue and that it would've been a waste of time ... In the past, the president used to be a mere moderator of dialogue, but today the president is practicing his constitutional powers and he has his say in things,” Geagea said in an interview on al-Jadeed television.

A meeting of Maronite leaders held at Bkirki on Friday stressed the need to hold the presidential elections on time and according to the constitution, it said in a statement on Saturday.

A Bkirki media spokesman told reporters that all four of the Maronite leaders, Free Patriotic Movement chief MP Michel Aoun, Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea, Kataeb Party chief Amin Gemayel, and Marada Movement chief Suleiman Franjieh are candidates in the elections.

The seat of the Maronite church in Bkirki witnessed Friday evening a meeting between top Maronite leaders, amid the absence of Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea for “security reasons.”

“Bishop Samir Mazloum presided over a meeting attended by Kataeb party leader Amin Gemayel, head of Change and Reform bloc MP Michel Aoun and Marada Movement leader MP Suleiman Franjieh,” state-run National News Agency reported.

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea announced that he is a “natural” candidate for presidency, vowing to withdraw Hizbullah's forces from neighboring Syria if he was elected the next head of state.

"I am naturally a candidate for presidency since I am the head of the most popular Christian party in Lebanon according to polls,” Geagea said in an interview on Al-Arabiya television that aired on Wednesday.

Lebanese Forces MP George Adwan said on Wednesday that the party's chief Samir Geagea is candidate to the presidency, pointing out that the party will soon announce the principles that it will adopt to communicate with its March 14 allies.

“The Lebanese Forces is seriously mulling to endorse Geagea's candidacy,” LF deputy chief Adwan said in an interview with the Kuwaiti al-Anbaa newspaper.

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea stressed Tuesday that “the Lebanese need a president who does not compromise,” calling for an urgent plan to address the dire security situations in Tripoli and the Bekaa.

“The battle of the presidential vote is the battle of the March 14 forces and the presidency is not for paving the ground for a political leadership but rather for selecting a strong president who has a clear vision for Lebanon according to March 14's legitimate political objectives,” Geagea said.

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea has urged the March 14 alliance not to be indifferent and to work on guaranteeing the election of a coalition candidate for the presidency.

“The March 14 alliance can't confront an important event such as the presidential elections with indifference,” Geagea told a delegation from Jbeil that visited him at his residence in Maarab.
