Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea urged the United Nations' investigators present in Syria to inspect the Reef Damascus town where “a horrific massacre” took place earlier on Wednesday.

"We strongly condemn the horrific massacre that killed hundreds of civilians and children in Reef Damascus this morning,” Geagea said in a released statement.

He told the daily: “I hope President Michel Suleiman and Primer Minister-designate Tammam Salam will assume their responsibilities until the very end because the fate of the state depends on what they do.”

Speaker Nabih Berri has defended Hizbullah against accusations that it is involved in the latest rocket attack on the Baabda area, saying it is a respectable party.

“Hizbullah is not only innocent from this act but its ethics and its path of resistance prevent it from such a behavior,” Berri told An Nahar newspaper published on Monday.

Lebanese Forces leader Geagea called on Sunday for support to President Michel Suleiman and hinted that the rocket attacks on the Baabda area this week came from a Hizbullah stronghold.

Suleiman's speech on Army Day was “purely constitutional,” Geagea told Voice of Lebanon radio (93.3) in an interview.
