Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea stressed that his party will go ahead with pressuring Prime Minister Najib Miqati to resign “no matter what the cost,” reported An Nahar daily on Sunday.

He told reporters: “The assassination of Internal Security Forces Intelligence Bureau head Brigadier General Wissam al-Hasan brings Hizbullah one step closer to taking over the state.”

Hizbullah on Thursday condemned remarks by Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea who accused the party of playing an “executive role” in the assassination of Intelligence Bureau chief Maj. Gen. Wissam al-Hasan, describing them as a “blatant, inflammatory attempt to pour oil on the fire of sectarian strife."

"The leader of the Lebanese Forces party – who is convicted of a series of major crimes against Lebanese individuals and groups, topped by the assassination of martyr premier Rashid Karami – has voiced a chorus of false accusations about an executive role for Hizbullah in the assassination of martyr Maj. Gen. Wissam al-Hasan, which we reject entirely,” the party said in a statement.

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea lashed out on Thursday at Lebanese security agencies, accusing some officials of carrying out an Iranian-Syrian plot undertaken by Hizbullah inside the country.

“If the case of (former information) Minister Michel Samaha, which led to the assassination of Internal Security Forces Intelligence Bureau head Brigadier General Wissam al-Hasan last week fell in the wrong hands, they might have covered the matter up and Lebanon would have witnessed greater havoc,” Geagea said in comments published in the Saudi daily al-Watan.

Differences emerged to the surface on Thursday among the parties affiliated in the March 14 opposition as the leadership of the Phalange party insists that boycotting the national dialogue table will lead to a deadlock in the country, local newspapers reported.

According to An Nahar newspaper, Phalange Party leader Amin Gemayel backs the efforts exerted by President Michel Suleiman to push forward the date of the all-party talks, which is expected to resume on November 12.

Several Lebanese figures are targets of possible assassinations, reported al-Joumhouria newspaper on Thursday.

A widely informed western diplomatic source told the daily that at least 18 Lebanese officials are being monitored, urging them to take the greatest precautions to protect themselves.

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea on Tuesday warned that “the killing machine has returned and we must find a solution to stop it," in the wake of the assassination of Intelligence Bureau chief Maj. Gen. Wissam al-Hasan in a car bombing blamed on Syria.

"The current situation is unacceptable as we are being killed," Geagea said at a press conference in Maarab, adding that "the parliamentary political life in Lebanon is not normal."

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea on Sunday called for the formation of a “sovereign, truly patriotic government,” stressing that the “struggle” of the March 14 forces will not stop before the departure of Prime Minister Najib Miqati's government.

“Today, we laid to rest martyr Wissam al-Hasan and all the martyrs but we reject to even think of bidding farewell to another figure once again,” Geagea said in a televised address.

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea demanded on Saturday the suspension of all the agreements with Syria, the expulsion of Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdul Karim Ali and the immediate resignation of the cabinet.

“They assassinated (ISF Intelligence Bureau head Brigadier General Wissam) al-Hasan to prevent the work of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon from revealing the truth,” Geagea said in a news conference at his Maarab residence.

Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun condemned on Friday the assassination of Internal Security Forces Intelligence Bureau head Brigadier General Wissam al-Hasan, calling for calm to “confront organized crime,” reported OTV.

He told the television station: “We strongly condemn this crime and I call on the Lebanese people to act calmly.”

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea and Phalange Party leader Amin Gemayel on Friday inspected the scene of the bombing that killed Intelligence Bureau chief Brig. Gen. Wissam al-Hasan and seven other people in the Beirut district of Ashrafiyeh.

“Whatever they do, we will continue our path,” Geagea vowed in televised remarks.
