A Spanish court on Wednesday remanded in custody five suspected members of an anarchist group who allegedly damaged bank machines and left a nail bomb at Madrid's main cathedral.

The five were among 15 suspected members of a group called the Coordinated Anarchist Groups, who were detained Monday in raids across Spain.

Spain's National Court, which is charged with terrorism cases, ordered that the woman be held in jail for the suspected crime of cooperation with a terrorist organization.

A Moroccan couple linked to jihadist networks were arrested overnight in Spain, along with their teenage sons, who were about to travel to Syria, the Spanish interior ministry said Tuesday.

The four were arrested in Badalona in the northeast, the ministry said.

An elderly British couple have been found shot dead in their villa in southeastern Spain, Spanish police said Monday.

Police discovered the body of the two, both aged 77, at their home in Xalo near Benidorm on Spain's Costa Blanca, on Sunday after friends were unable to contact them, a Guardia Civil spokesman said.

Investigators searching through the wreckage of the doomed Germanwings plane in the French Alps were forced Monday to resume the hunt on foot as bad weather hampered helicopter flights.

"The teams will get to the site via the path that is already in existence," said Yves Naffrechoux of the local mountain police.

A newly married Moroccan couple headed for a new life in Germany were on the doomed Germanwings plane that crashed in the French Alps killing 150 people, a relative said Wednesday.

"Mohamed Ettahrioui, 24, and his bride, Asmaa Ouahoud El Allaoui, 23, were killed" in Tuesday's crash of the Airbus A320 bound from the Spanish city of Barcelona to Duesseldorf in Germany, Abdelhalim al-Boujoufi, a cousin of the groom, told Agence France-Presse.

Flags flew at half-mast and workplaces fell silent Wednesday as Spain grieved for the 150 people, including at least 51 Spaniards, killed in a plane crash in the French Alps.

Mourners stood still for a minute's silence at noon at countless points around the country, including both houses of parliament in Madrid, theaters and football fields.

Venezuela alleged Tuesday that Spain's former socialist prime minister Felipe Gonzalez had joined a plot of ultraconservatives to overthrow President Nicolas Maduro's embattled government.

Leftist Maduro, whose country is in economic freefall after adopting a government-run economy while oil prices slide, said the leftist Spanish statesman had signed up with a group of far-right plotters in Spain, Colombia and the United States.
