Study: Google Becomes Online Advertising King

Google has become the U.S. market leader in online display ads, and now leads all categories for Internet advertising including search and mobile, a market research firm said Wednesday.

The firm eMarketer said Google will top the market for online display advertising with $2.31 billion in revenues -- 15.4 percent of the market -- in 2012.

Samsung 'Disappointed' at U.S. Judge's Tablet Decision

Samsung Electronics said Thursday it was "disappointed" at a U.S. judge's refusal to lift a ban on U.S. sales of its tablet computer as it fights a long-running global legal battle with arch-rival Apple.

A California jury declared on August 24 that the South Korean electronics giant should pay Apple $1.049 billion in damages for illegally copying iPhone and iPad features for its flagship Galaxy S smartphones.

Supercomputer Breakthrough for Australian Team

An Australian-led research team said Thursday they had made a technological breakthrough in the race for a quantum supercomputer that could revolutionise data encryption and medicine.

Engineers from Sydney's University of New South Wales said they had created the first working quantum bit or qubit -- the fundamental unit of a quantum supercomputer -- with the findings published in the latest edition of Nature.

China Cyberattacks Hit Japan in Island Row

At least 19 Japanese websites, including those of a government ministry, courts and a hospital, have come under cyberattack, apparently from China, police said Wednesday.

Many of the websites were altered to show messages proclaiming Chinese sovereignty over the Diaoyu islands, a Japanese-administered chain Tokyo calls Senkaku, the National Police Agency (NPA) said in a statement.

Sony Plans Slimmer Playstation 3 Before Year End

Sony Corp. is introducing a smaller, slimmer and lighter version of its PlayStation 3 home console ahead of the year-end holidays as it gears up for growing competition in games from smartphones.

The announcement Wednesday from the Japanese electronics and entertainment company comes a day ahead of the annual Tokyo Game Show, where game makers show their wares. But the iPhone 5 smartphone from Apple Inc. is hogging much of the attention, already drawing long lines for pre-orders at some retailers, and more lines are expected ahead of Friday's launch.

Fox Launches Streaming Films With iTunes, Google

Twentieth Century Fox, the cinema unit of Rupert Murdoch's News Corp., said Tuesday it would offer streaming movies for various devices through Apple's iTunes, Google Play and other services.

The Digital HD project will allow access to new releases before DVDs are issued, "attractive pricing," cloud storage and availability across multiple devices, News Corp. said in a statement.
