An exchange of gunfire erupted on Thursday between the rival Tripoli neighborhoods of Bab al-Tabbaneh and Jabal Mohsen, in the wake of a deadly blast that rocked the Beirut southern suburb of Haret Hreik.

Heavy celebratory gunfire had erupted in Bab al-Tabbaneh as news broke that a bombing occurred in Hizbullah's stronghold in Dahieh, the thing that led to tensions in the two Tripoli districts.

The army on Thursday arrested 11 people near the al-Beddawi Palestinian refugee camp in Tripoli on suspicion of their involvement in “recent bomb attacks.”

"As part of the mission of preserving security and stability, an army force arrested this afternoon 11 Syrians near the al-Beddawi camp in the North on charges of moving inside Lebanon without legal identification papers,” an army statement said.

Unknown assailants opened fire on Monday at an Alawite resident of the northern city of Tripoli reported the National News Agency.

It said that Youssef Khalil was wounded in his legs in the Bab al-Hadeed area in Tripoli.

The Higher Defense Council agreed on Saturday to refer the assassination case of ex-Finance Minister Mohammed Shatah and the "latest crimes" to the Judicial Council, Caretaker Premier Najib Miqati and the HDC announced.

“During our meeting with (President Michel) Suleiman, the caretaker Justice Minister joined us, so we asked him to prepare the appropriate documents to refer yesterday’s crime and the recent crimes to the Judicial Council,” Miqati said following an emergency HDC meeting at Baabda Palace.

Gunfire erupted in Tripoli on Friday as news broke that former minister Mohammed Shatah, who hails from the northern city, was assassinated in a car bombing in downtown Beirut.

Gunmen roamed the streets on motorcycles and opened fire in the air, according to state-run National News Agency.

Security forces confiscated seven kilograms of hashish on Thursday in the northern city of Tripoli.

LBCI television said “security forces managed to seize 7 kilos of hash at the al-Bohsas checkpoint in Tripoli.”

Unknown assailants on Thursday shot and wounded a young man who hails from the Tripoli neighborhood of Jabal Mohsen, as three other people were injured in a grenade attack.

“A young Alawite man was shot and wounded on Tripoli's Syria Street” in the Bab al-Tabbaneh district, LBCI television reported.
