Internal Security Forces deployed heavily on Saturday in the Beddawi region in the northern city of Tripoli to quell building violations in the area.

According to state-run National News Agency, the ISF units entered the area at 11:00 a.m. accompanied by army armored personnel carriers and ISF foot patrols.

Several workers were injured when an under-construction building collapsed in al-Beddawi area near Tripoli, state-run National News Agency reported.

NNA identified the owner of the building as Mahmoud Seif, adding that the wounded were rushed to hospitals in the area.

Key figures in the northern city of Tripoli agreed on Thursday to take a series of measures to improve political, economic and social conditions, Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Miqati announced.

“We formed a follow-up committee to execute the decisions taken” at the meeting that was held at the residence of MP Mohammed Kabbara, Miqati said.

More than 60 public school students were hospitalized in the northern city of Tripoli on Thursday after the tap water was contaminated, the state-run National News Agency reported.

The students, who age less than 12, were taken to Dar al-Shifa hospital after suffering from pain in the abdomen, vomiting, diarrhea and having difficulty breathing.

An Internal Security Forces unit began on Wednesday removing building violations in Beddawi region in the northern city of Tripoli.

The ISF patrol was accompanied by a special panthers unit, the state-run National News Agency reported.

General Prosecutor Judge Hatem Madi requested on Tuesday lifting immunity off al-Mustaqbal MP Moeen al-Merehbi a day after he allegedly opened fire at an ISF patrol in Tripoli.

Madi submitted the request to caretaker Justice Minister Shakib Qortbawi, who in turn referred it to the parliament.

The adviser of caretaker Prime Minister Najib Miqati denied on Friday that three hand grenades found in the northern town of Qalamoun were placed to target Miqati.

In remarks to Voice of Lebanon radio (100.5), Fares Gemayel denied the report published in An Nahar newspaper on Friday.
