State Agency: Top Turkey Media Group Probed for 'Terror Propaganda'

Turkish prosecutors have begun investigating a leading media group for "terrorist propaganda" over its coverage of the fighting between government forces and Kurdish militants, state-run Anatolia news agency reported on Tuesday.

The investigation into the Dogan Media Group, which owns the independent Hurriyet daily and CNN Turk channel among other outlets, was triggered by its contrasting treatment of images of Turkish soldiers and members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), Anatolia said.

Thai Police Chief Links Uighurs to Bangkok Bomb

Thailand's police chief on Tuesday linked the Bangkok bomb to China's Uighur minority, the first time he has referenced the ethnic group after weeks of skirting around their possible involvement in the attack.

The August 17 bombing killed 20 people, the majority ethnic Chinese tourists, raising the possibility of a link to militants or supporters of the Uighurs, an ethnic group who say they face heavy persecution in China.

Turkey Raids Critical Magazine for 'Erdogan Selfie' Cover

Turkish police on Monday raided an Istanbul-based news magazine after it featured on its cover a photomontage portraying President Recep Tayyip Erdogan taking a selfie at a soldier's funeral, its editor said. 

Counter-terrorism police arrived at the magazine's headquarters in the Okmeydani district of Istanbul after midnight but left after finding the building empty.

Turkey again Lifts Curfew in Restive Cizre

Turkish authorities on Monday lifted a curfew in the mainly Kurdish southeastern city of Cizre after reimposing it for 12 hours following a deadly nine-day military lockdown, the regional governor's office said.

The curfew, enforced as the army battles Kurdish militants, had first been put in place on the evening of September 4 and then lifted last Friday after nine days amid concerns of a humanitarian crisis.

Lebanon to Call for Redistribution of Refugees

Lebanon is expected to participate on Tuesday in a conference of states hosting Syrian refugees in Brussels, the head of the delegation, MP Michel Moussa, said.

Moussa told An Nahar newspaper published on Monday that he will call in his speech for providing Lebanon with promised assistance to confront the refugee crisis and to redistribute the displaced Syrians on countries capable of hosting them.

Turkey Imposes New Curfew in Cizre as Residents Bury Dead

Turkey on Sunday restored an open-ended curfew in the mainly Kurdish southeastern city of Cizre to catch Kurdish militants, just two days after ending a hugely controversial identical order.

The new measure came into effect at 1600 GMT after thousands of Cizre locals turned out for the funerals of 16 people killed in violence during the previous nine-day curfew that also left several buildings in ruins.

An Agence France Presse correspondent found several buildings had been destroyed and others pock-marked with bullet holes during the curfew, which was imposed late on September 4.
