Turkey Wants Anti-Assad Rebels to Control Kobane

Turkey wants the anti-Damascus Free Syrian Army (FSA) to control the Syrian border town of Kobane if Islamist jihadists are defeated, and not the forces of separatist Kurds or President Bashar Assad, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said.

In an interview with the BBC broadcast on Tuesday, Davutoglu called for an "integrated strategy" with the United States to equip and train the FSA and oust Assad from power.

The alleged shooter whose gun rampage in a U.S. school left three people dead invited five friends to lunch before opening fire on them, police said Monday.

The gunman, widely identified as Jaylen Fryberg, killed one person and injured four others in the cafeteria shooting last Friday before taking his own life. One of those injured died Sunday in hospital.

A U.S. Marine accused of killing a transgender woman in the Philippines said there was no basis to charge him with murder, his lawyer told state prosecutors on Monday, in the latest development in the politically charged case.

Private First Class Joseph Scott Pemberton, who is detained at the Philippines' military headquarters in Manila, did not attend the preliminary hearing in Olongapo, but his lawyer filed a motion to "declare the absence of probable cause for murder or any other crime".

Hospital: Teen Wounded in U.S. School Shooting Dies

One of the teenagers wounded in a Washington state high school shooting died Sunday night, raising the number of fatalities from when a student opened fire in a cafeteria to three.

Officials at Providence Regional Medical Center Everett confirmed the death of 14-year-old Gia Soriano. Another girl was killed during the shooting Friday by a popular first-year student at Marysville-Pilchuck High School north of Seattle. The shooter, Jaylen Fryberg, died of a self-inflicted wound.

U.S. Condemns Iranian Woman's Execution

The United States on Saturday condemned the hanging of a Iranian woman convicted of murdering a former intelligence officer she claimed had tried to sexually assault her.

"We condemn this morning's execution in Iran of Reyhaneh Jabbari," said the statement by State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki, who said there were "serious concerns with the fairness of the trial and the circumstances surrounding this case."

Two Cops Dead, Two Wounded in California Shooting Spree

Two police officers were killed and two people wounded in California on Friday when a man went on a shooting spree, officials said, having finally caught up with the suspect after he went on the run.

The violence -- which was stretched over several bloody hours and two counties and sparked a massive police manhunt -- began around 10:30 am when a police deputy went to investigate a suspicious vehicle parked at a hotel in Sacramento.
