Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat rejected on Monday claims by the March 14 camp that the Iranian embassy bombing in Beirut last week is linked to Hizbullah's fighting in Syria.

He said in his weekly editorial in the PSP-affiliated al-Anbaa website: “It is a wrong connection especially since those sides have absolutely no control over the so-called takfiri groups.”

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat called on Monday for preserving the cultural heritage of Beirut, noting also that the price for destruction in the Arab world is very high.

"If reports saying that the plan to demolish the Massad Stairs (in the Beirut neighborhood of Mar Mikhael) has been canceled, then this is good news for Beirut's heritage that is gradually getting extinct,” Jumblat said in his weekly editorial in the PSP-affiliated al-Anbaa website.

Head of al-Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc MP Fouad Saniora reiterated on Wednesday that Hizbullah should withdraw from the neighboring country Syria before it participates in any cabinet lineup.

“There are only two options either Hizbullah returns from Syria and we agree on a cabinet formation together or a non-political government would be formed and we resume the all-party talks,” Saniora said in comments published in the Kuwaiti al-Rai newspaper.

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat stressed on Monday the need for the judiciary to take its course in addressing the situation in the northern city of Tripoli.

He said in his weekly editorial in the PSP-affiliated al-Anbaa website: “The judiciary needs to take its course in Tripoli in order to avert strife.”

Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Miqati stressed on Saturday that talks are ongoing to determine the correct reference over the tasks that should be carried out by a caretaker cabinet.

“Any dispute is only over the right way to achieve the public interest,” Miqati told reporters after talks with Speaker Nabih Berri in Ain el-Tineh.

Prime Minister-designate Tammam Salam denied that he has reached a dead-end and revealed that the March 14 alliance had been mulling to accept a cabinet formula in which it would get veto power along with the March 8 coalition but reversed its decision after fiery statements made by Hizbullah officials.

In remarks to As Safir daily published on Saturday, Salam said a proposal made by Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblat to give 9 ministers to March 14, another 9 to March 8 and 6 ministers to centrists in the new cabinet was feasible for March 14.

Lebanese Democratic Party leader Talal Arslan denied on Monday that he allegedly delivered a letter to Syrian President Bashar Assad on behalf of Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat or vise-versa.

“The report is a rumor and false,” Arslan said, according to the state-run National News Agency.

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat and caretaker Prime Minister Najib Miqati held a meeting two days ago away from the media spotlight, An Nahar newspaper reported on Friday.

Sources described the meeting as normal as the two officials consistently hold meetings to discuss the latest local and regional developments, in addition to the cabinet formation process.
