Troubled Rapper Chris Brown Gets New Penalty

A U.S. judge ordered troubled rapper Chris Brown on Wednesday to complete a 90-day drug abuse and anger management program, in his latest judicial blow.

The 24-year-old, who is still on probation after infamously assaulting former girlfriend pop star Rihanna in 2009, was also ordered to carry out 24 hours a week of community labor and submit to alcohol and drug testing.

Brown checked into a California rehab facility last month after allegedly punching a man in Washington, but was thrown out after less than two weeks, according to the TMZ celebrity news website.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge James Brandlin ordered Brown not to leave Los Angeles County, except for traveling to Washington if needed next week for a court hearing on the assault charge.

The judge scheduled another hearing for December 16, in order to pursue the assessment of his probation conditions.

TMZ cited a probation report as saying that Brown was expelled from a Malibu rehab facility earlier this month after throwing a rock through his mother's car window. He had been at the center for 13 days.

In the Washington incident, Brown and his bodyguard initially faced felony assault charges after a scuffle outside a local hotel, but lawyers managed to get it reduced to a misdemeanor Monday, officials said.

Brown was arrested in February 2009 after getting involved in a physical confrontation with Rihanna that left her with a bruised and battered face.

The Virginia native was required, after pleading guilty in court to the assault, to take part in domestic violence counseling and sentenced to five years' probation and community service.

California authorities have filed probation violation charges against Brown twice this year already, giving him an additional 1,000 hours of community service work on his sentence for beating the Barbadian pop music star.
