Lack of Fuel Grounds Gaza's Sole Power Plant
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةLack of fuel from Israel brought Gaza's lone power plant to a halt on Friday, just 12 days after it was fired back to life following a seven-week shutdown, the Palestinian territory's electricity firm said.
"The plant stopped working on Friday morning due to a lack of fuel caused by Israel's closure of the Kerem Shalom crossing," an electricity company official said.
Israel closed the crossing to the besieged Palestinian territory on Tuesday following a series of violent incidents on the border with the Jewish state.
The plant, which supplies some 30 percent of Gaza's electricity needs, had previously fallen silent on November 1 as stocks of diesel ran out.
The power station returned to life on December 15 after receiving a delivery of fuel purchased from Israel by the West Bank-based Palestinian Authority using funds donated by Qatar.
The PA helped facilitate the delivery via Israel, which the militant Hamas does not recognize.
The Kerem Shalom crossing was closed on Tuesday following a series of cross-border exchanges between Israel and Gaza militants after the fatal shooting of an Israeli man engaged in maintenance work on the northern Israel-Gaza border fence by a Palestinian sniper.
Hold on a minute, why are there no fuel trucks crossing into Gaza through the Rafah Crossing from Egypt?
How easy it is for everyone to blame Israel, but also remember that Gaza has a land border with a fellow Arab State, Egypt through which everything could be transported, if only the EGYPTIANS allowed it.
as much as we already knew we'd find you here posting on this article and on his post before we opened it.
hmmm...keep it up, drone
The Qatari funded fuel purchased by the PA ran out and Hamas refuses to pay for more. This is between the PA and Hamas . Israel has nothing to do with it.
