Kuwaiti FM to Visit Palestinian Territories Sunday

Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled al-Sabah will visit the Palestinian territories this weekend for talks on reconciliation among the Palestinians, an official said Wednesday.

The visit will be the first by a senior Kuwaiti official since the Palestinian Authority was created two decades ago.

"The visit of Sheikh Sabah to Palestine on Sunday comes within the framework of Kuwaiti moves to consolidate joint Arab action," foreign ministry undersecretary Khaled al-Jarallah was quoted as saying by the official KUNA news agency.

Jarallah said the minister would seek to bolster reconciliation between the Palestinians, without providing any other details about the visit.

In 2012, the Palestinians reopened their embassy in Kuwait City, 22 years after it was closed over the perceived support of the Palestine Liberation Organization for Iraq's invasion of Kuwait.
